Stolen from
janedavitt The fandom closest to my heart is from the 1970's show Emergency!. So with help from
whome38, here's 10 reasons to love E!.
- Johnny Gage--goofy and silly, but when he does his job, there's no one better.
- Roy DeSoto--long-suffering and patient He frequently gets a rap as being kind of dull and boring, but in the first season it was Roy who got the paramedic program going. It was his passionate speech that got Johnny Gage into the program.
- The Cast--featured a Native American, a African-American, and a Hispanic. Not bad for the 1970's
- Dixie McCall--The head nurse held her own with the doctors. She frequently put them in their place with a well placed look or the sharp edge of her tongue.
- Fire Trucks--Who doesn't like fire trucks?
- The Station--anyplace that has 6 handsome guys in their underwear is a great place to be
- The Recurring Characters--Brice, the anal-retentive paramedic and his slob partner, Bellingham; Vince, the motorcycle cop; several nameless nurses. It added to the realism to see the same people, some just working in the background.
- Dr. Brackett's Wardrobe--if we ever need an argument against plaid polyester pants, we can pull out footage of Dr. Brackett's stylin' wardrobe. I'm sure at the time he looked really fabulous.
- Johnny's double thumb flipping--In the opening credits, Johnny pops the caps off syringes with his thumbs, which has inspired generations of kids to become real-life life savers
- Friendships--Jack Webb insisted that his stars share a trailer during the the series run. IRC Kevin Tighe was Randolph Mantooth's best man at his wedding a few years back. It's also led me to some of the best friends a gal could have. Not bad for a 35 year-old show
Some of the best fanfic stories I have ever read were written in this fandom.
Randolph Mantooth is still gorgeous...and wonderfully generous and fun. It may have been an act, but he really won my heart that night in Chicago; when he actually looked at his watch to see if he had time to go for drinks with a bunch of us girls hanging out after Project 51. Too bad he had to make some phone calls.
I still love this show and hope that all seven seasons come out on DVD!
