"You're taking the piss, right?" asked Donna, her eyes ablaze with wonder and more than a little annoyance. "This isn't Hawaii."
"I didn't say I was going to take you to Hawaii," protested the Doctor, firmly looking the other way as if to avoid the death glares coming his way.
"No," said Donna, stepping around him so he couldn't turn away. Not without incurring her wrath, anyway. "You said we were going somewhere like Hawaii. But more interesting."
He looked around and sniffed thoughtfully. "Well. It's interesting."
"It is a beach," she said, drawing out her words carefully for maximum venom, "entirely covered in thick spikes that have already punctured my toe. Could you imagine sunbathing on that? There isn't even a sun! What kind of beach is this?"
"Suppose it must be some kind of life form," said the Doctor, trying hard not to look too amused and failing miserably.
"What? A living beach?" asked Donna. "A living beach? A beach that's alive?"
"…Yeah."
She stared incredulously at him for a long, terrible moment. The Doctor focused on the sounds of the sea, because trying to face down Donna in this mood probably wasn't going to work. The entire beach seemed to shift beneath them, and Donna stormed past him.
"Next time," she said, her voice about ten times louder than necessary in such a quiet place, "we're going to Hawaii. No arguments. Right?"
"Right," said the Doctor weakly, and followed her back into the TARDIS.
