lighting & heat & food

hello everyone! just joined!

i have 2 baby red eared sliders that are at least a couple months old
and have been residing in a shallow water tank with land in the middle.
today i got a 10 gallon tank for my babies! yay! there is land
slanted so that they have plenty of room to escape from the water, but they
don't seem to want to do that! i also have a good sized filter that the guy
at the petstore picked out for my tank, so i think its adequate.
however, i have two questions:

#1. i have heard it is best to feed the turtles outside of the tank,
so i am planning on feeding them in the old one. how often do i do this?
how long do i give them? is this the best way to feed them? they seem to
be good eaters but previously i had just put about 3 of the little
things in there and they were gone by the end of the day so i didn't pay much attention.

#2. heat & lighting. they have been surviving through heating pad underneath the small tank, and sunlight. there is a little sunlight where the tank is, but for more i moved it into the direct sunlight (with some shade protection of course) during the day. but what now? i
understand i need some kind of lightbulb? (btw i am aware this was probably not
the most adequate lighting/heat but i am fixing it now!) what kind of bulb, etc. do i get that can easily fit on the top, side of my tank?
and what about water temperature? how do i keep it warm? thanks so much.
