As many of you are already aware, DADT was repealed by the Senate last night. Obama looks forward to signing it into law. And we have another seven months of political bullshit and red tape and paperwork and whatever crap government officials feel the need to do before anything can actually get done ( Read more... )

Yes, it is waaaaaaaay past time for this bullshit to be gone. And I am so happy it is going.

I've been in the Navy and the homophobia is just fucking unreal.

I have no idea how successful letting transgendered people serve will be, though, :(, considering the mentality of those in the military command.

I'm kinda sad, I'm too old to really take advantage of a DADT repeal, now. Le sigh. At least it finally happened! It's been centuries in the making, after all.

I think transgendered issues are much bigger than homosexual issues--with gays in the military it's basically people getting over their ignorant beliefs that they'll butt rape people or whatever, whereas with transgendered there's a whole problem of whether they'd be considered male or female (after all, there are different physical standards for males vs. females) and that sort of thing. Homosexuals and transgendered people always get lumped together for being sexual minorities, but there's a huge gap in what sort of societal issues they face.
