Sometimes it suffocated him to the point he could scarcely breathe. Lupin. Remus. Moony. His life. His world. His everything. He could stare at him for hours and never find himself bored. Watch and caress Remus with his eyes every second he was not allowed to do it with his hands.
He could not escape being enveloped by Remus and he didn’t want to. He never told anyone the truth about the “incident” at the Shack. Never corrected anyone’s assumptions about his target. Oh, he hated Snape, no doubt. No one would argue otherwise, least of all him. But he wasn’t the reason. No. Not Snape that time.
The scenes burned raw in his head. Mocking him. Berating him. Driving him mad. His Remus, his Moony, flush against the wall, struggling, pushing, denying. The sound of Remus’ voice pleading, “No, stop, not you,” Echoing through his skull, relentlessly. Worst of all was that it stole something precious away from him. Ruined the memory. Tainted it.
The words louder than the blood pounding through his veins, “I love Sirius, James. I love Padfoot. Sorry.” He was so angry. So furious. The next day the only thing he regretted was that he wasn’t aware that James could move so fast. He didn’t know. No one did. Except Remus. He knew and he loved him anyway. Loved him still. Forever. The anger at James abated as he looked into those beautiful eyes on that weary face. Remus. Moony. His.
