Just had to share an excellent (though not too long) interview with Nightwish band leader/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. This man has earned having a country in the world of GADIA named after him b/c his music is just UNBELIEVABLE. I like to say I'll never feel the need to become a recording artist or write songs because this man already writes the music of my soul~
*ahem* But I digress.
Here's the interview.
I wanted to really point out what he says in the last question--the enormous power over a fan a celeb has and what responsibilities you gain by becoming "someone." I'm really pleasantly surprised by Tuomas's insight and viewpoint on this matter--wish a lot more celebrities would think like this. At the same time, I understand how embarrassing and difficult it must be on someone so introverted. I'm so glad he's been able to preserve a lot of his naivete despite being at the center of an internationally renowned band.
Oh, but the excerpt:
"I've seen the effect that I or another band member can have on a fan. It takes one minute of your life to go and see somebody and take a picture with him or her, sign an autograph and chat a few words. And they live five years longer because of that you can see it in their eyes, it means the world to them. Sometimes you simply can't, though - you don't have the time or the energy, and you just can't do it. Later on you feel like, "I could have done it." I have that power to influence people and make them feel really good or really bad by not meeting them or doing something wrong unintentionally and that I have a hard time coping with."
I guess that explains why he came out of the tour bus after the San Diego concert--he must've been exhausted but came back out b/c there was this huge crowd of fans standing outside waiting to "demachi" the rest of the band. Poor guy, he could've rested--but I do appreciate his coming back out for 2 reasons: 1) an excellent, up-close photo of his lovely profile, and 2) I got to see first-hand how incredibly tall he is...! Standing next to him, I only go up to his shoulder! @_@
In a totally non-squeeing-fangirl way, I really love and respect this man...!
