Mostly for Grant

So, where to begin...

1) I am working for a culinary temp agency called Event Temps, ( www.eventtemps.net I think) that ships out waitstaff and bartenders to catered events. They also do a labor pool thing for dishwashers and positions like that.

I get paid 11.50 an hour, and in a week will have a 50 cent raise (ha). I work all the time, and harder than I have in a long time. Two days ago I had to dress up as Babe Ruth, and YELL "Peanuts, get your peanuts", "Hotdogs, I've got fresh hot weiners", and "Sausagessssss, come and get 'em while they're hot". That was at Northeastern University. Easy job.

Let me tell you about the hard jobs. Today I worked at the 50th Reunion of M.I.T., which was a plated, 800+ person event with only 12 waitstaff. Plated means that you serve EACH person. Do the math, what's 800 divided by 12. I don't even remember. Just keep in mind that each person was served water, tea, dinner, salad, coffee, and dessert. Not to mention SETTING 800 place settings. That means assembling 80 tables, folding 800 napkins, putting table cloths on, and plates, and silverware. Setting all those tables takes well over an hour.

THEN! Clearing it all. Ugh. I really don't think anyone I know has a concept of waiting on 800 people all at once. Try waiting on 20, and you feel like you are in over your head. I thought I was going to collapse I was so exhausted, and hungry. I got up so early I didn't have time for food, and we didn't even get 5 minutes to sit down. I'm talking concrete floors standing straight at attention with your hands behind your back, and a smile on your face for 8 hours.

My toes are covered in little fluid filled blisters, and I think I am beginning to feel my arches drop. I have crazy high arches, for anyone who is unaware.

To top it off, I am not making enough money to live and save, so I need to find the time to look for a 2nd job, AND to work it. ha.

2) I live in an apartment with Ashley (my best friend from High school), and two other people. They are nice, and everything is quiet and routine around the house. We live in a little suburb called Jamaica Plain, which is part of Boston, but right outside of the city. I love this little place- all the houses around here are painted pastels, and have tulips and hyacinth growing in the front yard. It's really very beautiful. I will ask Hanoch to email me pictures of Boston, and post them in my journal.

3) I did know how to roller skate super well around 13 years ago. We'll see if I still have mad skillz or not.

4)I'm ok. I wouldn't go so far as to say super happy, because a lot of the time I am not. Most of my time is spent working, or alone at home, because Ashley is visiting her boyfriend. Her visiting him is fine, it's just that I don't have any other friends here, nor do I have a phone. I can't just go and rent a movie, because I never have the money. So, everyday I go to the library, and check out a book. That's my life. I haven't gone out once in the two months that I have been here. Last night there was a reggae show, but I would have had to go alone. I honestly felt like crying because I coudln't go. Eh, today I am over it, because I had to go in to work at 8:30 am, and as hard as I worked today, going out wouldn't have been a good idea. There are really good days here though. I try to go to the Hare Krishna temple for dinner on Wednesdays and Sundays, because it's free and vegetarian. Also, I am reading excellent books all the time, and spending enough time alone, that I am starting to get myself sorted out.

So...That's me, for the moment...o_0
