Leaving Tuxtepec today my Aunt and I rode in a fancy taxi to the bus station. On the outside it was your basic small, sedan taxi but on the inside it had an excessive sound system, a tv on the dash playing music videos to accompany each "jam" the driver was pumping out, a super wide rear view mirror etc

my mom's family, the mexican side, has always just understood what no meat means. sure they'll tease me but there's never been a real problem with comprehending it (even with my limited spanish). bacon mistake aside it sounds like your family made an effort, and that rules and further proves my point.

More than one person on this trip has asked if I eat fish, I actually hadnt heard that one in quite a while.
Ive encountered the "Im mexican" defense... not the "Im black defense" though. So silly; Im mexican AND black! and if we want to get really nerdy/hokey about it, my blood type is O positive and I feel just fine on my animal free diet.

It's rad that they made such a huge effort. I'm always so stoked when our families are so accommodating for Bill and me. My step mom is amazing. I think she likes the challenge/change of routine when we're around. My dad's not a complete meat and potatoes kind of guy or anything, but I think the overall vegetable intake increases quite a bit when we're there.
