Back from Cali

I am back from vacation! (I had a wonderful time, but I am now sad because I miss my friend. Boo.) I am going to try to catch up on email and LJ today and tomorrow, so there may or may not be a deluge of comments depending on how overwhelmed I feel.

Meanwhile, in other unimportant news, I heard the big River revelation from the newest Who ep. (Plz remember that I don't like Moffat as a person or a writer and consequently haven't watched any of Season 5-6, so these are random thoughts, not an invitation to engaging in any sort of detailed, specific discussion- I haven't actually watched *any* of it so am not equipped to discuss it beyond random commentary.)

Disclaimer: As stated above, since I'm not following the new series, I am not filled with shock or awe about the new revelations, and also probably am missing a whole bunch of important nuanced stuff I would know from actually watching the show. With that in mind, my thoughts are:

River is Amy's Daughter!
1. They managed to destroy the only 'ship I was remotely interested in. Why am I not surprised.

2. What is Moffat's obsession with little girls suddenly turning up all grown up? It's starting to get pretty creepy. And just...weird.

3. "Melody Pond"? Seriously? That's the best they can do? I thought Moffat's calling card was supposed to be that he was really clever. That's just silly.

4. So are we really at a point where the Doctor has had two generations of women desperately in love with him? That's...pretty gross. I mean, not surprising from Moffat, but, eww. Here's hoping River doesn't have any kids.

5. No wait, if the Doctor actually knew River from when she was a very young child, and like, trained her and taught her how to fly the TARDIS and stuff because he knew she was gonna grow up to be his girlfriend/wife...OMFG THAT IS CREEPINESS OFF THE FUCKING CHARTS. EW. EW. EWWWWWW.

6. Did Moffat really create a character that's the long lost kidnapped daughter of two companions, who also has special powers no other companion has, knows everything about the hero and is totally in love with him? I'm pretty sure I read a fanfiction like that once. Or at least, started to and backbuttoned. Are they sure she's not really Snape's longlost muggleborn daughter who's in love with Harry?

7.Honestly, I don't find it very exciting. They built it up so I was expecting something much more convoluted and crazy. This is just...eh. Though I'm sure there are more convoluted and crazy revelations to come. Though, with this tacked on as well, it's just starting to seem really silly. Like a space soap opera. But less tongue in cheek. Oh well. Glad I'm not watching!
