1. I saw Eddie Izzard last night with L2 and he was delightful as always. And super hot in his tux and heels and eyeliner. If I were looking for a romantic partner, an action transvestite is really what I'd want <3.

2. Gallifrey season 3 is getting SO GOOD I CAN'T TAKE IT. Every time I listen to an ep I take a month break in between because I get ( Read more... )

circe fails at fandom, l2, pointless entry is pointless, rl, big finish is the best, wangst, fandom wankkkk

I like tumblr for graphics and gifs and fanart and pretty things, and it's exceptionally good at that, I just feel it fails at the other half of important fandom-y stuff. I'd just like some discussion without, like, going to Gallifrey Base. :P

I haven't quite got the whole making connections with new people thing yet
Lol, if you figure this out, please share with the class!

I also feel like it's hard to connect with people without having fandom discussions, which is hard, or sharing personal stuff, which I am not cool doing if it can't be flocked, and I'm sort of amazed that people are so open about stuff. I mean, not that I'm a horrible person online but my "fanart" (I use that term loosely) tumblr occasionally has racy stuff, and my other tumblr in addition to fandom has a lot of politics and nsfw stuff, so if anyone from RL found me it would potentially be very embarrassing/creepy.

because things move so much more quickly.
This, totally. If you're not on tumblr all the time to be there when stuff is happening trying to participate after the initial rush (or heck even find stuff) is pretty impossible.

tumblr just feels so much more public. like, even stuff I would have happily made public posts about on LJ I don't on tumblr because of the whole tagging/reblogging thing. it's more like a shared noticeboard we all have a corner of. whereas even public LJ is more like your front garden, you know: people can see it, but most people don't really look for it.

and yeah, discussion/meta do not work there. even message boards don't work half as well as LJ's threaded comments but at least they understand the fundamental principle of conversation.

Not to revive a dead thread, but since I'm already here...

it's more like a shared noticeboard we all have a corner of.
I still find the tagging system a little awkward. Like, it makes perfect sense in theory and I like the idea of it, but when it comes to fandom it seems like you still get so many people doing weird stuff like tagging their hate because they don't know better, whereas you would rarely have someone join a community and then make a negative post?

I also am much more shy about posting something in the tags that I would in a themed comm. It doesn't make sense, because they're pretty much the same thing, but for some reason it feels like so much more pressure...

haha no I agree definitely. I mean, clearly 90% of tumblr puts the weirdest crap into the tags, but I always feel this grave sense of responsibility about sharing so publicly.
