Nine/Rose portrait/Badwolf-
So it's been a while since I did any Nine/Rose and I've been meaning to, and this is one of (hopefully) 3 that I've been trying to finish up. I liked the image because it looked almost like a portrait sitting, and it reminded me a bit of another Nine/Rose nude artsy manip I made a long time ago. the Rose base was too skinny, so I filled her out, and the Nine base was too short and muscular, so I made him taller and thinner and filled in the missing parts. Rose's face was easier than Nine's, but I think her hair is from like 4 different images, which was a pain. Nine drove me crazy- it was probably because of all the body changes I made, but I couldn't get his head to look quite right- I kept on thinking it was a touch too small then a touch too big. I think it's mostly okay now, though. After that, I colored both of them and added a lot of shadow. I tried to figure out what would make the best background, but in the end I decided simple was better and a detailed backdrop would be distracting and went with two layered textures. Then, of course, since I am obsessed with cheesy Bad Wolf effects, I masked the background to black and went crazy with the paintbrush and smudge tools and different layer effects & blend modes. I also ran the final through Paint Daubs, then sharpened it, hopefully giving a bit of a painted look. And then I thought it might be neat to play with the animation functions, and this is the result. I don't think it's the best, I don't know what I'm doing and PS doesn't seem to transition well between light and dark. My first version was at badwolfrising, and then I went back and tried to actually create some transistion slides. Not sure if this is better or worse. And then I went and made one that was just pulsing Bad Wolf glow, for no reason, and a few icons, because they were requested. The only part I'm still really not thrilled with is the key- I was going for it being propped up on Nine's forarm, so it's raised towards the viewer slightly, but my foreshortening efforts kinda failed. I still need a lot of work with perspective. :P It retrospect I think I should have made the chain longer too.
Donna/Jack glam B&W-
So, Donna/Jack is one of those ships I love, but there's not a lot of fic out there for them. And I had originally started a manip for them ages ago that a draft I had worked a long time on got destroyed in a weird error that I'd never seen again. So I kept meaning to make another one, but never quite got around to it. I still think I need to make a few more, but this one is ok. I like to pretend that Donna and the Doctor rescued Rose and all travel around in an awesome team TARDIS, and occasionally visit the Hub where Donna and Jack are having a torrid romance that Donna and Rose gossip about and the Doctor fervently pretends doesn't exist. (though he did threaten Jack with a painful death once if he was mean to Donna). If you're wondering where Ianto is, this is either after CoE or he's just offscreen about to engage in a hot threesome cause they'd be an adorable ot3. (Alternately, if you're a tumblr person this could be Gallifrey Records Donna and Jack if you squint.)
Anyway, oh man, I had so much trouble with this one. The lady model was too tall and skinny, and the male model was too short, so I changed that. Also, the whites were hyper-blown out, which wasn't working with the shots I chose, so I tried to bring them down and even it out some. Donna I didn't have too much trouble with, and I'm pretty pleased with how she came out. I like her expression. I blended her hair from several images, and equalized her skin tone with the image. Jack, however, was a mess. The model had really weird proportions that weren't working. So I tried a bunch of things, tried a bunch more things, sent it to beta, and then tried a bunch more things, using a few more images, till I got it to a point where I didn't 100% hate it. I'm still not super thrilled with how he came out, but I had spent so much time on Donna I didn't want to scrap it completely. He doesn't look completely terrible (at least I hope not) but he's still bugging me. Anyway, after that I added a Torchwood background and shadowing and lighting and stuff. I originally wanted a kind of super-smooth, glossy magazine look to this one, but the high contrast on this was messing with the effects I was trying, so I then went for a more drawn, but still smooth effect, using surface blur then noise reduction with high sharpening, then smoothing out the rough edges. I like the final effect, hopefully it's not too overdone? And then I played with color washes. Woot.
Donna/Jack nail-painting silliness:-
Okay, this is horribly done and totally ridiculous, but I'm throwing it up anyway because I thought it was at least faintly amusing? I came across this image and was thinking how Jack would totally paint Donna's toes for her and do a wonderful job. And then I put them on the Torchwood couch, just because. I know the grotty couch at Torchwood is not the best place for such activities, just pretend they're on their way somewhere else. Not betaed at all, because the picture was so small and low-quality I wasn't going to be able to do much with it anyway. So all the horrible proportion and lighting errors are all mine. I was trying to go for a bit of a painted look here, but I probably failed. Anyway...
