Art post: vintage Rose & the Doctor
Hey look, I actually finished some art. Don't know how that happened. Ten/Rose, and Cloen/Rose (or Ten, I suppose, if you want to look at it that way). Soooo. Neither of these is very exciting, but I have some other ones I'm posting soon that hopefully will be?

Warnings for a "racy" vintage postcard (OMG Rose's wearing SHORTS and you can see her THIGHS.) for the first one and for a bit of bare male chest and leg and some not very racy female lingerie (high waisted briefs, a solid bra with a lace shirt over it) in the second one.

Err, hello to whoever still looks at my manips and reads these notes! I haven't done any PS stuff in a long time. Mostly because my mojo was gone and I was very busy in RL. But I want to come back to it, because I really enjoy it! So I've been working on a bunch of images. I feel like these aren't as polished or nice as some of the other one's I've done? Hopefully once I get back into the swing of things that will change. And I actually have a bunch of stuff almost done- two more Rose/Ten ones that were part of this batch, a Rose/Cloen/alt!Amy one I made from a friend a while ago that hadn't been betaed, a vaguely surreal Rose & Martha one and a Rose & Idris one (both for the reverse_bang thing), and Cloen and Rose being adorable on a Vespa because I've run across a lot of "Cloen's not the REAL Doctor, bawwwwwwwwww" recently so I decided I needed to make some straight up Cloen & Rose images. All of these should be ready to post in the next 2 weeks or so, depending on how RL gets! Anyway.

So I found a whole bunch of adorable "racy" scanned vintage postcards on deviantart, and I thought it would be fun to add the Doctor and Rose into them (I have a Rose/Nine one too, that never quite made it off the ground). My thoughts on this were that Rose found the Doctor's vast collection of dirty vintage postcards and was terribly amused, so the Doctor took them on a trip back in time so they could immortalize themselves by posing for one. ;) Changes on this one were mostly Rose- the biggest things were that I made the torso shorter, and adjusted the arms. Refreshingly for once, for once, I didn't have to make the body less skinny. I adjusted the Doctor's shirt a bit, added sideburns to the shot of him, and did a lot of work making the faces blend in, including stealing grain from other areas of the photo and using an adjusted layer on hard light. I worked on this one for a long time, and was relatively happy with it, and as I'm staring at it now, I'm not liking Rose's face as much. I wanted it smilier. I think I couldn't find a better shot, which is no excuse, but I feel it wasn't bothering me so much before. Hmmm. Maybe one to come back to, at some point. The desktop came mostly from suggestions from Gleeful, though I don't think this is quite what she was after. I wanted to play up the vintage-y bits, hence the sepia and the vignetting. And a TARDIS key, apparently. It might be a bit too monochrome, but I wasn't sure how to add color without emphasizing the "This is a desk with pictures on it!" which I've already done once on another wallpaper...

Am I the only one who has an incredible weakness for "Ten reads to Rose" fic? I hope not. Anyway, there's no plot to this, other than "Cloen and Rose like to be naked. And also, reading." This one I had a lot of trouble with because I really liked the image, but it was pretty small and poor quality. (Of course, when I was looking for credit for this image a few minutes ago, I was able to find a much larger version almost immediately. ::headdesk::) But I was determined anyway. And then of course, the faces I decided I absolutely had to use were also poor quality as well. So the whole thing was kind of doomed from the start. I resized Rose's body, made her less thin, resized Ten's body, added another arm for Ten so he wouldn't look disembodied & added a sonic screwdriver on the night table. I had a lot of trouble with Cloen's face because the screenshot I was using was terrible. I redid the texture on his face, and did a lot of softening/sharpening restoration stuff. It's still not great, but much better than it looked. The hardest part for Rose was getting her hair to look like she was actually in that position, unsurprisingly. I ended up using 3 or 4 images and painted in a lot of shadows. And built her a neck. Lots of painted shadows and lights, and a bit of toning. (And although I know that shadow on her bicep (that I didn't add) is from the book, it's bothering me now. Hmm.) The original finished version was very, very soft looking. If you're curious, you can see it here. I wanted to get a sort of surface blur effect, where it's a bit hyper-real and painted looking, but the pic quality was too poor for that. To get the final version, I ended up using layers on different transparencies of paint daubs, poster edges, and accented edges, as well as some layers set to vivid light. I'm mostly happy with how it turned out. The wallpaper? IDEK what's up with that. It's a bit random and not very Who related. I wanted reds and yellows?
