Down Fandom Memory Lane

I just wrote twenty lines of heroic couplets about reality television. I've had too much caffeine, it's one o'clock in the morning, I should be finishing my imitatio and going back to sleep, but no, I came back to lj and skipthedemon is talking about The X-Files, and now I'm thinking about The X-Files, and when was the last time that led to anything but ( Read more... )

I used to have a GA icon in my stash and now I can't find it...*rummages*

I *adored* "Post-Modern Prometheus". It's a fantastic stand-alone episode in a looonggg series arc. I heard that they asked Cher to do a cameo for the episode but she refused so they had to use a stand-in.

And I'm one of the weird ones who didn't want Mulder and Scully to get together. I liked the tension.

And Krycek...yeah. *sniff*

*whispers* just one episode, watch just one....

Yeah, when X-Files was brilliant it was *brilliant,* but when it sucked . . . .

And I'm one of the weird ones who didn't want Mulder and Scully to get together. I liked the tension.
Heh. A couple of years ago, those would have been fighting words. ;) Yeah, I liked the tension too, but it just seemed that it got ridiculous after awhile. If they'd actually kept them apart, that would have been one thing, but it happened, only off screen and we didn't find out until later and it was all ambiguous and just weird. The show wouldn't have been the same without the UST though, so it's good that they left it unresolved for a long time.

Krycek!! *cries*

Enabler! One episode leads to two, leads to entire seasons! (But I'm probably going to have my parents send me some of my tapes all the same). *g*

And, off topic, thanks again for the extra userpics! I really appreciate it!

You know, I wasn't old enough to really get into the X-Files, (I'm not going to tell you how old I was when the series started, because it would make me want to crawl into a corner and suck my thumb) but it was the first show that I remember entire episodes of crystal fucking clear.

So I'm going to hop on the "do it, do eeeet!" boat, because when it was good, it was awe inspiring.

Enablers, the lot of you. I know very soon I'm going to have to track down my favorite episodes. It's just been too long. Yeah, when it was good it was awesome.

Let's see, according to your userinfo, I'm about two years older than you are, and I was twelve when I started watching and, that was in the third season *not so rapid calculation because I am out of practice at math*
Yeah, I'm actually surprised I got into it as young as I did, but my parents never cared. I guess it was a step up from Anne Rice and Dark Shadows, which were the precursor obsessions. It actually became something of family activity. I think they started watching it to indulge my crazed obsession, but they actually kept watching even when I stopped.

Well, I think my first episode (or at least the one that's forever engraved in my brain) was the fluke monster one. So yeah, wasn't too big in on that.

It's hard to believe now, but I spent most of my childhood running around outside doing insane things like bike tricks and rollerblading in my sunday dress. I have more interesting accident scars than any three people really need.

So I wasn't so big in on the telly at that point. Although really, nothing is worse than trying to figure out how old I was when episodes of Buffy aired, especially all the good ones, from, you know, season 2.

It makes me cry.

(As does the fact that my three favourite albums of all time are a decade old this year. My music tastes should not make me prematurely old!)

Flukey will do that to you. Personally, I always liked to show people the fat sucking vampire just to throw them.

My first episode was "Humbug," with the figi mermaid, the siamese twins and the sideshow.

And yet I kept watching. ;)

Fuck you Chris Carter! I'm with Joss now, you will NEVER GET ME AGAIN.

snerk. (note to self: I should really have an X-Files icon)

So I want to watch these things, which can only lead to an X-Files relapse which can only lead to a return of the bitter, which does not mix well with the crazy.

I know what you mean. I gave up watching X-Files in S8 and only watched the series finale after that (which was so very wrong). For a while I didn't even watch reruns because I was so mad at CC for screwing up the show. Now that some time has passed, I can watch the reruns and get this warm fuzzy feeling, because even the bad episodes in the early season were so much better than some other shows. I guess for me it's more like a bad break-up than an addiction. :D

I really wish the DVD's were in the same price range as BtVS & AtS so I could replace my archive of VHS tapes.

If the dvds were in the same price range, I would own them all.

I have a certain amount of nostalgia for old episodes, but I also have anger, resentment . . . exactly like a bad break up, actually. I know I have an obsessive personality. I could let myself get sucked in again, and before we knew it you all would be subjected to wish-fulfillment, issue-laden fanfic all the time. No one wants this. I promise. ;)
