1) I've skimmed back through skip a million on my flist, but I know there's a whole lot I've missed fannishly. I'm glad everyone at Writercon had fun, and I'm trying to catch up on that stuff. I also missed ibarw completely, though I have a whole lot bookmarked that I need to read through. I hate feeling so behind on fandom, but I should probably get used to it because I'm pretty certain that next semester is going to kick my ass in a way that won't be all that compatible with my current level fandom participation. :(
2) There should be a word for being stupidly overinvested in a platonic relationship. Because sometimes I am *more* invested in platonic relationships than I am in the things I actually ship, but it's *not* shipping and there's not a word for it and this is incredibly frustrating, especially in the wake of the Panic breakup. (Ryan&Spencer ;___;) And if you thought I was ever going to stop harping on the Panic breakup, you were wrong. Sorry.
3) I love the "What a Catch" video. Oh, Fall Out Boy. ♥___♥
4) I know you all have been waiting with bated breath for me to weigh in on Hot Mess, so here it is:
With a few caveats, I actually really like Hot Mess. I'm still refusing to actually buy it because of the cover, but that is apparently only a symbolic protest and my convictions are weak since I have tickets to see them twice at the end of the month and I will likely shell out for more hideous merch. I don't know why I can't help it. I have no resistance.
Here's what I said in an email to
elucidate_this about the album:
"I like it! I don't love every song on it, but it's catchy and all the songs will be great to dance to and fun live. Tts a ridiculous album, but there's nothing on there that's even as problematic as "Scandalous." I could have lived without "Nice Guys" but since it's not from the pov of the Nice Guy, I can read it as tongue in cheek. Otherwise there's a lot of Gabe being ridiculously defensive about his life as performance art statement, which made me roll my eyes a lot - but it was *affectionate* eye rolling. I think it's standard Cobra fare, with Gabe's IF YOU DONT GET IT YOURE JUST NOT PAYING ATTENTION thing cranked up to eleven. Though I *am* choosing to interpret "You're Not in on the Joke" as the emotional core of the entire album. Also, I can't figure out if "The Scene is Dead, Long Live the Scene" is Gabe being emo, making fun of emo, or telling us how he's going to self-destruct as performace art. I suspect some combination of the above, which is a little concerning."
I did roll my eyes and *facepalm* a lot, but I also danced around my apartment a lot and found myself thoroughly, if bemusedly, charmed. "The Scene is Dead" *is* concerning, though. You know, between being a Ryan fan and a Gabe fan, I'm pretty exhausted.
inlovewithnight has suggested that I fan someone "safe," but then she suggested Alex DeLeon and I think the embarrassment squick alone would make that fairly unbearable. Really, she just doesn't want to be alone in her new found Singer-affection and shame. I'm onto her.
5) There should be a five. Here is a list of the
