As I'm sure everyone knows by now,
Dreamwidth goes into Open Beta on April 30.
I'm really excited about that, you guys. I registered my openid account there already, and I'll probably get a paid account as soon as I have the opportunity.
That's not to say I'm leaving LJ. In the end, I'll be wherever fandom ends up and the fact that bandom is my primary fandom and has been rather silent on this issue is something I'm taking into account. I also have a number of friends on my LJ flist who are not related to fandom and I don't want to lose touch with them. All of this might mean a lot of feeds; it might mean keeping up with two flists for awhile (to the best of my ability); it will definitely mean crossposting. I do - eventually - plan for Dreamwidth to be my primary fannish journal. I have no idea how it's all going to shake out - not even for myself, so definitely not for fandom as a whole - but I'm really relieved there's finally something that's a viable LJ alternative.
I've been worried about fandom's relationship with LJ for a long time, and since Strikethrough I've kind of figured that it was only a matter of time before we'd have to have a new platform - we're not there yet, of course, but I'm still convinced we'll get there eventually. That was something I just tried not to think about because I find fandom upheaval so upsetting, but yeah, I feel good about a journaling service that states upfront that it's fandom friendly and is run by one of us.
What are your Dreamwidth plans, flist?
