For some reason
this is kind of an uncomfortable collision of fandoms for me. Not sure why.

Just got back from watching the debates and drinking beer with friends. For the most part I agree with the commentators that nobody said anything new and there were no clear smackdowns. (They should totes run the debates with internet rules. McCain would have lost on the grounds of Godwin's law.) I do think Obama did a better job of staying on topic and answering the questions. I wanted McCain to actually *talk* about the taxing health benefits thing, but it was probably too much to ask that he actually respond to that.
Whatever. Let's talk about TV.
Supernatural! They have not pissed me off with the religion stuff yet, which is super cool. I was expecting to want to throw things at my television, but I don't. SPN is not known for their grasp of the concept of nuance, so I am skeptical of their ability to adequately pull off a religion plot line, but so far so good. I like that it's Lilith causing the apocalypse and we're not actually dealing with a heaven sanctioned end-of-days. I like that they're talking about Lilith again and that she has a major role to play here.
I really, really want a scene between Sam and Dean where they deal with how traumatized Sam has to be from spending all of those months alone. Also - I think it was Olivia and her brief appearance and quick death that made me preoccupied with this (more so than usual), but this show needs female characters. Bring back Jo and Ellen, bring back Tamara, give us a female hunter, whatever, but seriously.
There was some awesome stuff in this episode. I loved Bobby's panic room. I really liked the ghosts they brought back, and they all had some really valid points to make - especially Meg. Meg calling Sam on the Ruby thing actually did a lot to restore my faith that they know what they're doing. I used to always really trust them with emotional follow through. After last season that faith was waning, but maybe they do deserve the benefit of the doubt. The Ruby thing is fucked up on purpose. Okay. I can go with that.
Hendrickson and Dean were just as slashy as they were when Victor was alive. I loved their dynamic so much. I am a little disappointed because this confirms that Hendrickson is, actually dead. I was still holding out hope that he'd turn up alive again at some point. You know who I really, really would have liked to see, though, if we're dealing with people they couldn't save? MADISON. That shit would have been awesome. Sam would have been a broken wreck forever.
I am still enjoying Castiel. His interaction with Dean is fantastic. I even liked the threatening. It's true - Angels are scary and I'm glad they're making that clear - and that there are battles going on our boys have no idea about.
I am *intrigued* by where they are going. I'm still reserving judgment in a lot of places because it's going to take awhile for them to win me back completely after last year, but I am definitely intrigued.

Totally random observation: So I've been following the new community
stillhitthat, which I admit I think is hilarious. I haven't participated though, because it's really driven home the fact that I lose so dramatically at bandom sex chicken. There just aren't very many people I would bang without qualification. Of the bandom bands . . . Vicky-T maybe. EVERYONE ELSE MUST BATHE. After that, additional criteria will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Fall Out Boy's video for "I Don't Care" is completely obnoxious in every way. I love it. My favorite part was Gabe in the Joe mask. Who's surprised? ETA: Have now seen Pete's blog post re: the product placement and how that wasn't the cut of the video that band approved, which is cool because that was the one part that made me go "wait . . . what?" Also - donating the proceeds to an organization dedicated to defeating proposition 8? Thumbs up, Pete.

Looking at my posts over the last . . . long while, actually, I've realized that I've kind of defaulted to a friends-mostly posting structure. Because of school and a couple of other factors, that's probably going to be the case for the foreseeable future. Fandom stuff (what there is of it) will, of course, be public, but most everything else is going to have to go behind the flock. That shouldn't really change much of anything, but just throwing it out there.
