My ex-roommate, who stayed in New Orleans through Gustav (and Katrina, actually), called me this morning to complain of boredom and to reassure me that the worst was passed and I really should stop panicking. That was really good to hear. There are still things we don't know obviously, and we're not sure when they're letting people back into New Orleans (I have some friends on their way up here to see me because of that), but I'm really relieved that things are looking okay there. /understatement Thanks everyone for the hugs and reassurances. I don't even live there anymore and most of my friends evacuated and I still spent days obsessively watching nola.com and quietly losing my shit. I will be SO HAPPY when hurricane season is over.
Now I am going to go get drunk with new friends at a Labor Day party. I feel this will be cathartic.
