It's amazing the things you have time to do when you don't have regular internet access. I haven't done as much exploring as I feel like I should, but I'm pretty well organized and set up here. It's probably good for me, though I am not going to have any idea wtf is going on in fandom by the time I come back. You know how some people take some ( Read more... )

Katy Perry is the former Christian singer daughter of two evangelical preachers. She was not successful in that arena and her parents seem to think that "I Kissed a Girl" promotes sin. My general thoughts on her everything: music, lyrics, image, merch are so negative I almost have rage blackouts. But I dig her voice and her taste in men. It's unfortunate that everything else about her is so firmly in the fail column of life.

Yeah, I knew that about her background. It *might* shed some light on her misguided attempts to be "edgy." (Note to the world: edgy and offensive are NOT THE SAME THING). I will see what else she ends up doing, but I agree that pretty much everything I've seen so far leaves me with a pretty negative opinion.

I am RELUCTANTLY charmed by that. Clearly, it's the femslash potential with the video gaming.

Gabe needs slightly broader shoulder straps, and possibly something to make his torso look less freakishly long. But the color was good on him.

I can't believe I have an opinion on that.

Oh, it was totally the femslash potential with the video gaming that made it appealing for me. That and Gabe in her dress. *g* I agree with your assessment, btw.

I agree with you completely on Katy Perry. I was mostly okay with "I Kissed a Girl" (as long as I didn't listen to most of the lyrics), but then I saw the video and it was like softcore "lesbian" porn for straight men and I wanted to puke all over it. And "Ur So Gay" makes me want scream at her. I WANT THE METROSEXUAL BOYS. STOP DISCOURAGING THEM FROM HYGENE AND GOOD CLOTHES OR I WILL END YOU, KATY. Plus, I just find that sort of damaging yet "flippant" stereotyping fills me with the same blinding rage you mentioned.

And then I saw that video and I was a little charmed. But I'm still inclined to view her negatively. Then again, Travis will probably break up with her eventually and I won't have to be confronted with her any more.

Re: lacking internet. I seriously don't know how I filled my time before it. There was a lot of reading, I know, but what else could I possibly have been doing? I don't know.

ALSO: YOU'VE NEVER BEFORE READ GOOD OMENS??!!? HOW?!

Exactly. The first time I saw the video for "UR So Gay" I just kind of stared at my computer screen in disbelief feeling literally kind of nauseous. I might not feel quite so negatively about "I Kissed a Girl" if the other hadn't come first, but it did, so I find all of it kind of gross.

So obviously I'm still inclined to view her negatively, but I did seriously love the stuff with her and Victoria. I want so much more canonical evidence of bandom girls being friends.

I know, right? There's all this free time now. It's distressing. But it does make me realize just how much time fandom does take up.

YOU'VE NEVER BEFORE READ GOOD OMENS??!!? HOW?!

I don't know! It was a gross oversight, but it is now being rectified.

Ugh Katie Perry. Why so charming in that video (though i didn't love the weird gender dynamics. i did love the stuff with her and vickyt like woah)

I will continue to keep you apprised of the bandom situation.

(ps, you linked my username wrong, you put the fic outside the name parameters so now it looks like nevernever is who you were linking. and while i deeply wish that my lj name could be nevernever instead of neverneverfic, it is alas not)

Yikes, sorry! I was in a hurry last night, but it's fixed now.

I appreciate you keeping me up to date.

It's mostly the Victoria and Katy videogaming that I loved. That's pretty much what I focused my attention on. That and Gabe in her dress. It was like that other video we were watching where . . . Eric was it? I don't remember. Put on Vicky-T's shoes because she left them in the lounge and stomped the trash with them. I would also read fic about Katy and Victoria getting revenge on the boys for stealing their clothes.

there's a lj-com devoted to Gerard/Edward Cullen slash.
WOW.

I'm reading Good Omens for the first time, right, and I'm thinking to myself "I wonder if there's any good Aziraphale/Crowley" slash
Oh man, I love that book. And I was totally slashing Aziraphale/Crowley when I was reading it, but then I forgot to look for fic about them. Or got distracted.

I know. And the best part is how I'm not even surprised.

I think it's probably hard not to slash Aziraphale/Crowley. Apparently multiple lj-comms would agree with me.
