I spent most of today reading World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. *So* good. I was sitting in the living room when my roommate and his brother came in and asked me what I was reading. I told them and it spawned a two hour discussion about how to best defend ourselves in the event of the zombie apocalypse. What I love best about my friends is how this topic comes up on a fairly regular basis and how they all have fairly in-depth Zombie Preparation Plans all worked out.
They were very concerned about what I am going to do in DC next year. "Who will protect you from the zombie invasion?"
I don't know, guys. JUST ONE MORE THING TO WORRY ABOUT I GUESS.
Yesterday I actually went down to the Quarter during the day for the first time in awhile. I have this whole list of things that have to happen before I leave and time is flying by at a rate that is truly alarming. I haven't been to the zoo since graduation and I haven't been to the art museum since before that. Last weekend I did go to the D-Day Museum, and on Thursday
songgirl12 and I went to Ogden Museum of Southern Art, where I had never been despite having worked down the block from it for two years. They have live music on Thursdays and Paul Sanchez, former guitarist for Cowboy Mouth, was there. It ended up being all about Katrina and New Orleans pride, the way most things do around here. I'm going to miss that, the camaraderie and community of this city. I'm getting a Fleur de Lis tattoo before I go; I don't care how cliche it is. It's going to be as simple as possible, though, because when I'm in New Mexico this summer I'm going to get a Zia symbol right next to it.
I was ALSO supposed to be looking for grants/scholarships this weekend, though I'm probably going to be selling my soul in student loans no matter what at this point. Instead, I pretty much wrote fanfic. There are two I'm actively working on (aside from bigbang) one is Brendon/Ryan/Keltie and the other is Gabe/Gabe's Existential Angst/Vickyt and I wish one of them would just work already. I also need to start thinking about the Buffy/Faith I want to write for
lynnevitational. And I want to write Cobra GSF called "Tragedy of the Human Condition" because I think it could be hilarious, but I probably won't, because I'm fairly sure it would probably just end up being more flailing about Gabe's defense mechanisms and Tragic Emo Past.
Writing is hard and takes forever. (At least for me). You all should tell me about fics you are working on. We can commiserate over our frustration.
