I never said I'd leave the city, I never said I'd leave this town

In response to the "ask me a question" meme, soundingsea said: How did you pick your ...upcoming destination? *glares at unlocked post*

By "upcoming destination," she means Georgetown University, which, for the record, I am talking about in unlocked posts now.

I applied to several schools and Georgetown seems like the best fit for me for a variety reasons. One reason is location, I admit it. Every other school was even further north and I'm a southwestern transplanted to the south already. The further north I get the twitchier I get. It's cold. It snows. I'm miserable. soundingsea I know you have frequently tried to point out to me the merits of the north, and your pictures are always gorgeous and your arguments are compelling, but I'm already going "Washington D.C.? THAT IS THE ARCTIC CIRCLE. I AM MOVING TO THE TUNDRA." The idea of even further north is terrifying. The second reason is that I don't really want to teach and so going into a PhD program wasn't ideal, and several of the programs I applied to were PhD only. (I was still unsure when I was applying, which is why I applied to a bunch of different types of programs, but I'm fairly decided now). The third reason is how friendly they've been there. They were the first school I heard back from and they have been - by far - the most accessible. I have spoken with the admissions advisor and the financial aid counselor. I'm still working out how to pay for the other half of tuition, of course, but hopefully that will all come together - even if I do have to take out more loans than I am entirely comfortable with.

Also: I'm leaving New Orleans. So, in part IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE I END UP. WOE. ANGST AND PAIN AND WOE. And . . . yay school and new experiences? But also angst and pain and woe.

Happy Panic Day, everybody! I got my copy of Pretty. Odd. yesterday and I enjoy that I now have the lyrics in front of me. This album has grown on me a lot since the first time I listened to it and there are songs on it I am completely in love with. There are also a few songs I am less in love with, but overall their adorableness is pleasing to me. ♥ ♥
