So originally I was going to do a really in-depth Mardi Gras recap post, but it feels a little late for that now. This is not going to be as complete as I intended - mostly I'm just throwing pictures at you. Basically from about Friday night through Wednesday afternoon I didn't sleep. I saw my brother and his girlfriend and all of their friends that they brought with them from Chicago. I had my friend Angelo (who lives in Albuquerque, but who I met on the Turkey trip) here visiting and it was
inbetweens, Angelo and I for most of the weekend. I also met
slappytanker *waves* which was awesome. Angelo introduced us, and within five minutes we realized we were both fangirls and then we geeked out for about three hours.
I wish I had more pictures of the parades themselves. Most of the ones I do have are of people. I tried, but the pictures of the night parades didn't really come out, and I forgot my camera when we went to Rex and Zulu on Mardi Gras morning. (Which we almost didn't make it to because of the EXHAUSTION. They were running about two hours behind; that's the only reason we managed to see both parades).
Overall, I really had a great time this year. It was beyond exhausting and I totally caught the death flu, so I am still paying for it. But it was worth having death flu. It was so completely worth it.
Title float of Krewe D'Etat. D'Etat is the death parade and its themes and float titles are always really hilarious, yet scathing, political commentary. Krewe D'Etat was Friday. I wish I'd had pictures of the other parades that day because Muses is ALWAYS awesome. But it was hard to get pictures of the actual floats to come out.
This is my brother,

This is me and

Bourbon Street and religious protesters
More Bourbon St. This was Lundi Gras night and the crowds were INSANE.
More Bourbon St. I can usually find the protesters at Mardi Gras more hilarious than offensive (as opposed to the protesters at, say Southern Decadence) but it's still pretty obnoxious. Especially since I have such a Christianity: You're Doing It Wrong response to biblical literalism anyway. The protesters on Bourbon St. on Mardi Gras though - utterly, utterly ridiculous. I can't even imagine how they think that will do a bit of good.

Taken when we were down on Frenchman Mardi Gras night at about 1:30 am. I had already not gone to bed at midnight as planned. We were outside of Cafe Brazil with a huge group of people dancing to Latin music in the street. It was one of those great, endless, New Orleans nights and I didn't actually sleep at all.
The following pictures were taken Wednesday morning on the parade route about a block from my office. Mardi Gras debris.
Angelo took the rest of the pictures. These floats were all from Endymion on Saturday. This is the first year since Katrina that Endymion rolled on the Midcity route.
This is my cat. Unrelated to Mardi Gras. I just wanted to share her cuteness.
Those of you who asked for Mardi Gras trinkets - I think I have them sorted, so those should go out this week.
ETA: ALSO. I have not commented on "Mystery Spot" because I have not yet gotten beyond incoherent flailing. That may happen eventually. Or it may not.
