weekend and last week's tv recap

I went in a bookstore today. That only ever ends in me spending obscene anounts if money that I don't have. I now have a copy of the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, since I had misplaced mine and it was making me sad. Of course, my old copy has all my notes from my 19th century American fiction class in it, so I still wish I'd found that one ( Read more... )

Have you read the last volume of the Tamir trilogy? My favorite was the first book.

Veronica Mars:
I also love that the show will let the characters fuck up royally. One of the things I love is that Veronica had the right intentions and drew reasonable conclusions, but still got things so wrong. And people suffered for it. I hope we can see fall out.

My theory is that Veronica's a sekrit scifi geek.

I think we will. They've historically been pretty good about emotional follw-through, and last night's didn't drop the plot line, so I think we're going somewhere with it.

♥ Veronica. Sekrit scifi geek, indeed.

I'm wary of the show prioritizing plot twists over exploring the consequences of actions. Or maybe it's just that I don't agree with what the show considers consequences.

True, and you may be very right on this. I don't overanalyze VM the way I do some other shows, so I would have to think more about how they've handled things in the past. They do love (and prioritize) their plot twists, and can get kind of gleeful about them. We'll see where it goes.

I do get analytical over VM, but not monofannish full-blown obsessive where I have to binge on meta and fanfic. I don't even know how VM fandom is reacting, and I certainly couldn't rattle off episode names and highlights like I could with other shows.

I almost got monofannish over VM when I watched the first season all at once last summer. I even started writing fic - once. It didn't last, though, and the fic never got finished. I keep thinking I should sit down and watch the second season all at once like I did the first. Then maybe I'd actually understand it. ;)

I never answered your question about the Tamir Trilogy - no, I haven't actually read any of them. I read the Nightrunner books and *loved* them, but I never got around to reading the Tamir Trilogy. I was waiting until the third book came out, because I hate to wait and then I could just read them all at once.

I also liked VM's S1 better than S2, and am not sure if it's because I watched S1 all at once, or if S2 was more convoluted.

I like the Tamir trilogy better than Nightrunners, but I had some issues with the Tamir books. I think they're worthwhile reads.

I've heard good things about the Tamir books. As soon as I get through my "to read" pile a little bit, I'll pick them up.
