John Watson owns two watches. One is analogue, the band leather. The other is digital, a circle of metal around his wrist. Except to shower, he never removes them. There is a system to his watches, to the tan lines at the ends of his sleeves, but a careful observer would say he only wears the one.

I'm sorry this rec is going to be so short... I don't have time to write up anything long, but this fic is amazing and it deserves so very much love. By far one of the most interesting and intriguing things I've ever read, whether it be fanfic or otherwise -- it tackles a very complicated idea, and executes it with an awe-inspiring level of internal consistency. This fic is... well, it's yet another of those fics that makes me remember just how much we can do as authors. It has a compelling premise, simply stunning characterisation (especially of John), and it's -, well... it is just that good.
It may be confusing at first, but do persist... it is well worth it!
