When I first started looking at the Charles/Erik fic produced by fandom I was disappointed to see that there was so very little of it that dealt with what happened after the Beach Divorce (as fandom has taken to calling it.) I can see why people choose to ignore it. It's not a happy story, after all, and Charles and Erik most definitely don't get to walk off hand in hand toward the sunset with love in their hearts and smiles on their faces...
But damn it. I wanted that fic! You know. The one where it's all terrible, and they never do reconcile with one another - but love each other anyway because love doesn't care about petty things like ideological differences. I wanted that fic.
Well... I didn't exactly find that fic...
I found something better.
This vid by arefadedaway is all of that and more. Almost entitled 'ALL THE FEELINGS' this vid looks at Charles and Erik and takes who they were and what they became, and makes it wonderful. It's not a happy vid. But then, this is the most painful of love stories - made up of mistakes and missteps and actions that can never be forgiven. The almost title is spot on, every single moment of this vid is filled with emotion. There are great swathes of sadness, loss and painful betrayal. There's Erik realising too much, too late... and Charles being too damn righteous for his own good. There is no happy ending, and no reconciliation... but that's okay, because it was never meant to be like that anyway.
If you, like me, wanted something that just tapped into all those feelings... this is the vid for you.
