So, after having worked for about three weeks or so on my miniatures challenge, I'm making some pretty good progress and I believe that I'm more or less on schedule. It took me the better part of a week to get the two boxes completely assembled, cleaned, and primed.
I was a bit upset about the primer, mostly because I just don't like to experiment with spray primers. But priming by hand takes a long long time. Spray primers are really particular about how they are used, and cheap primers aren't worth the bother. I got some really nice primer, and I'm still trying to figure out how to get coverage just right. I had some problems with "powdering" when I primed these models. Basically, I tried to prime too many, and a number of them caught half-dried particulates of primer on their surface which makes a really porous, pebbly surface which is a pain to paint properly. This means I needed to go back over them with an old toothbrush to clean the surface smooth again, but a lot of the recesses came out messy still. It slowed down the painting process on the Dwarf's chain mail armor. I had to repaint it about twice as much as I would have liked.
But overall, I'm pleased with how my unit of Dwarf Warriors is coming along.

I still need to paint the banner here, but it's a group shot
same group, without the standard bearer blocking the shot.
Group Shot of the Dwarfs for perspective. The group on the left is a unit of Longbeards (Dwarf veterans), to their right is the Cannon and crew, right of that is the Dwarf Warriors, and in front is a unit of Dwarf riflemen called Thunderers.
Next up is the elves
In the back is Glade Guard, to their right is the Glade Riders, front left is a unit of Dryads, and to their right is a unit of Scouts.
I love the Dryads in this setting, they're described as being utterly insane wood spirits. Not preservers, just the embodiment of destruction.
