Yes, I am still here & all is going ok. I've been keeping busy with spring cleaning (ok, not a lot of that but still have done some), with a couple orchid shows & some garden walks when weather was ok & baking. I made some cool cookies with a new set of cookie cutters modeled after 1940's/1950's tattoo flash. It took some time to make those & we took awhile to decorate them too. It was fun, they were tasty & people at work enjoyed them.
We hit a couple of orchid shows over the past couple weeks. It has been years since we went to them & while I had killed off some of the ones we had, I've managed to keep others alive. We have picked up some new plants & I have been doing a bunch of reading up to do my best to keep them alive. I posted about the first show we went to, since then we picked up 5 more orchids at the show the next weekend --- a new moth orchid (aka phalanopsis), 2 new zygopetalums (these ones are wee babies so won't be flowering for at least a year or 3), a cattleya & another dendrobium. The catleya & dendrobium aren't quite big enough to flower yet (I think) but look like they could be close, maybe in the next year or so if they don't flower this spring. Last night I picked up one more, a scented and tiny flower orchid called
dendrochilum glumaceum. So I've been busy trying to read up on all the new kinds of orchids, as well as the ones we've had before, to try to figure out their preferred care (light, water, temperature, etc).
Here are some photos to share, most under the cut!

Here are the cookies I made with the Fred's brand Tough Cookie cookie cutters that are shaped like retro tattoo flash.
The undecorated cookies, stamped & ready for baking:
I think next time I make the cookies I'll use roll out icing & stamp the decorations into them. These took a very long time, about 2 hours, to decorate. C did some but her back was hurting so she didn't do many.
We've had an election here tonight. Bad news is that it looks like the same government has been re-elected for a 3rd term. They are the National Party, kind of like the Republicans in the US. They are on the conservative side, for business (the bigger the better), against beneficiaries, workers' rights & unions. You can imagine I'm thrilled at another few years of the poor being pushed to the bottom (oh, but you know 'trickle down' really works it's the best thing for the poor---yeah right), people being screwed over by the government.... I could go on but it's late & I want to get to bed.
So basically, yes I am alive & still around but a bit busy these days. I'm a bit depressed over tonight's election results but I'll live. And I'm off to bed for now.
