Viking Knit Update

Apr 12, 2014 23:20

I finished off a Viking knit necklace tonight, even made some matching earrings out of coiled wire. I never do matching earrings so think it is cool. I am really happy with this piece, it is the piece I was playing with design ideas in this post, the black and purple piece, & am happy with how it turned out for the most part. I want it to be...more graceful than it is, but I think it's because how I imagined it is slightly different & that didn't turn out. It is still stunning, if I do say so myself. Sorry to tease but photos to come later.

The break through in it came last night when I couldn't sleep. Worked on it from 12:30am to almost 3am straight with the new design ideas & it came together remarkably well. It's going to be expensive. I haven't costed it out yet but there are a lot of materials in it so I'm pegging that I'll probably price it around $170NZ and that is going to be cutting out most of my labour, but I don't think anyone will pay that much for it, let alone what it would really be worth. The earrings will probably go for $20-$25 on their own, nothing too grand in them and not too many materials.

Photos of this one and one I finished last week to come.

Mean time, I realise I hadn't posted photos of the one I did for the Stephanie Eddy contest. The contest inspired me to try to do more with my pieces instead of just putting some knit together, and the contest piece was the spring-board of the 2 pieces I've done recently. Here are a couple photos of the contest piece.

Sorry for the low quality & not great photos, it was hard to get a shot of the whole thing.

I am using a couple similar elements from this piece in the one I finished tonight: coiled wire over Viking knit & dangling bits.

I didn't win the contest with this & I didn't really expect to because the people that enter that are just way out of my league. But it is something to aspire to, and I may put this up with a price tag on it (when I figure it out) just for the heck of it, but don't really expect this one to sell. Here are the winning contest entries so you can see why I knew I wouldn't win, being up against people of this calibre.

It's almost midnight again so on to bed with me. Photos to come when I can take them. :)
