Relay
Our Relay for Life team is waking up. I held a meeting at work & people showed up. I did the same thing last year and 3 people showed up. I was a bit surprised at having about 10!! I even had 2 guys run upstairs just before the meeting to ask how mandatory it was because they wanted to join but couldn't be at the meeting.
Me: "uhhh...not at all, it's just to tell people about Relay so if you want to join I'll send you the invite".
So that has kept me busy. I've sent out something like 15 invites over 2 days and had the immense joy for the first time in my captainship history of actually seeing people raise their money. Before this most of it was offline, with the odd credit card donations flickering in. This year people are hitting the online tool hard because you register, upload a photo & can change your story, then can email or share on Facebook or Twitter. You also put down how much you have raised in cash as "offline" donations. We went from about $250NZ on Tuesday to $920NZ today (Saturday)! I have a regular donor who always gives me a big donation, & again this year she's given $200NZ so I put that through last night as part of my online donation.
Not everyone will use the online tools (I know that for sure) but it's great to see some taking advantage of it. They can also see me taking the lead with the donations so far & maybe that will inspire them. And if you would like to support me, you can. The site is secure & takes international credit cards.
My page is here & this year you can put up a little blog so I've put a couple short Relay-related posts there. I know most of you aren't in the position to be able to do this so no pressure, just for those who may be interested. And even if you can't afford to support me you can take a peek at my page if you want.
So that has kept me really busy the last few days.
Viking knit contest
I had an email yesterday I didn't win the Stephanie Eddy Viking knit contest. Bummer, but I really wasn't expecting it so not a surprise. It's been a good inspiration for me & a good wake up call to adapt my style. I got into a rut of make bracelet/make necklace and they were all the same general style. They are nice, they are unique but they are pretty basic. I've started adapting. I'll post a photo of the completed piece soon. Hopefully Relay will quiet back down for a week (until our next fundraiser) so I can get back onto working on the projects I have on the go. 2 need components that are on their way so I'm working on a dragon. I am also going to make a piece for my regular Relay donor. I do try to do a little something for her & want to do that again.
Fit Bit
I got a
Fit Bit One yesterday. Carol got one of these little devices just around Christmas. She got a basic one, they were on sale so she picked it up. Depending on the device, it logs your steps, calories burned (resting & active). I got one that I can log calories in/out, water consumption, and my sleep patterns, etc. It syncs with your computer when you get withing a certain distance & you can track your progress. The sleep function is the reason I got the one I did. I often don't feel well rested when I've slept and this actually charts how often I've woken up, restlessness & calculates actual sleep time vs sleep efficiency.
I want to get into better shape after being sick. I am a big couch potato, especially these days with doing stuff for our business (which didn't have a very good year last year) & Relay & just pissing around on the computer especially when I'm down. I want to drink more water so can track that.
This is my public profile. I think you can add friends so add me if you have a Fit Bit.
Ok, speaking of business I need to get in the shower so we can take some new things to Craftworld. I'll post photos later of the Viking knit. I need to catch up on my reading pages so forgive me if I haven't commented lately.
