[Dream 001]

The smell of heat and the feel of a Knightmare thrumming beneath her.

This is what war is like, to fight not only for what one believes in but in one's very right to live as one wishes. Emperor Charles of Britannia, now on a movie screen making a pompous speech to the world, claims that men are unequal, that the only measure of a man is in his ability to subjugate others and come out on top. Kallen watches impassionately with her fellow students, but inside, she thinks that's a load of self-serving crap.

Britannian soldiers tearing down Japanese monuments, killing innocent people and moving on without any semblance of remorse. Breaking Tokyo, leaving barren ruins for the indigenous people, building up a grand city right next to it for the priviledged. Kallen got away with living here because of her mixed heritage, but it always felt like a lie. The only time Kallen felt like she was her true self was when she waged the battle for her country with her compatriots. Her compatriots, who would become the Black Knights.

So many flashing images. Battle. Speed. Life. Death. School. Terrorism. Love. Hate. Family. Freedom. Friends. Comrades. Joy. Sorrow. Britannia. Japan. A timer, now counting down the start of a vital mission: ten, two, one--

Zero.

Take off.

How long has it been since the fighting began...? How long since Zero arrived, changed everything? How long since that fateful day on Kaminejima--

*bzzt*

That was the past. This is the present.

She'll move forward.

"Row, row, row your boat," someone softly sings, "gently down the stream..."

Kallen opens her eyes from the place in Espoir where she'd camped out to sleep for the night, and stares at the morning sky.

"Weird freaking dream," she mutters, stretching the stiff aches out of her back as she rights herself. Raven had told her, as well as Asch and Zelos, about the Dreamberries; she pulls hers out then, looking at how it resembles the key to the Guren. Kallen smiles, and flips it open.

Somewhere around here, there's Lelouch and C.C.. And Suzaku, which isn't so great (and C.C.'s a pain in her own right, too), but she'll deal with that as things come. Yesterday, she got her bearings around this bizarre place, freaked out at the moving scarecrows, got a good look at that castle in the sky. Today, she'll start searching in earnest. After all, maybe he told her to stay put and wait for him to rescue her, but if they're really in a dream, aren't all bets off?

ic, dream
