Baby Starling
Definitely Autumnal here today. As I have been so lax in using my new camera in the garden this year, I decided to try a few close ups and have posted them behind the cut. They are large images.

I've been taking pictures of various things inside as we are having yet another sort out prior to decorating the second bedroom upstairs and I am going to try and sell them on freeads. I've also uploaded nearly 40 book descriptions to e-bay. Down here, it looks like a second-hand furniture store :) I wonder whether any of the furniture/electrical items will sell, as people seem to like buying new now - we are now a throw-away society. I have seen a lovely second-hand wardrobe/storage unit on freeads and have mailed the owner to find out a bit more about it. She only bought it six months ago and is selling it for one third of the original price. I'm not proud, I'll buy it :)

There's also the problem of all the 'stuff' which is going to be thrown away because it's redundant. We've both agreed that we are keeping our record collection for now even though we acknowledge we're never likely to play them again - which feels weird. As I was moving the albums out of the room, the various album covers brought back so many memories :) I can't imagine not having The Beatles, Jethro Tull, David Bowie and The Cars albums sitting somewhere in the house. But we have a couple of hundred cassettes - not originals, but ones where we recorded the albums so that we could play the tape instead and keep the album scratch-free. No-one is going to want these I guess, so they'll be thrown away :( And there's a similar situation with our VHS videos because we won't be watching them again - we have another 50 or so of those where we taped favourite films from the TV when we first had the video recorder. I saw One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Whose Life is it Anyway and a couple of Roman Polanski films in there for starters, but I don't think it's worth keeping them - the quality isn't going to be as good as DVD - but we're not likely to buy the DVD's ... time to stop being sentimental and evolve :)

Not much else going on. We have been caught up in the cycling, which has been exciting and even pushed me back on to the exercise bike. Neither of us can work out why we have 'gone off' going out on the bikes regularly. But I need to do regular exercise as it helps me in so many ways. The down side is that it makes me so hungry all day. To stop us having those moments when we can't remember who won what in the cycling, I've started a cycling LJ this week. I only intend to post news articles and pictures of the main tours and exciting changes in teams, etc., but it will be good to refer back to. The newspapers, and eurosport, don't seem to keep their news links current, so this is a way of always having something to refer to. I also want to document the Floyd Landis story, the 'Seven Tours of Lance' and the doping scandal which came about before the Tour de France this year. But it'll take quite a long time to research, although interesting.

I can already feel myself slipping into Autumn/Winter mode - e-baying always takes a lot of my time during the shorter winter days, and this cycling project will also be quite time-consuming. We have quite a bit of work too - what I'd really like to do is bury myself in long work days during the winter and have the whole of the summer off! Hmmm, better have a reality check.

Time for The X Factor.
