Cycle lanes, in my experience, are usually pretty worthless, the only ones I like are either entirely off-road or those little cut-throughs you get at those priority-traffic pinch points or dead ends. Old stuff this, but for some reason I can't seem to bring myself to hate Boris Johnson. Take this piece on cycling in London, I could pick holes in it (e.g. the Chinese "ubiquity" of cycling is no longer really true), but it's too enjoyable for that. Having said that, I think this response may top it, for content if not for style.
