Why do we all seem to be, deep down, gluttons for punishment? Putting ourselves in situations we know to be hazardous, thinking this time we'll be able to pull ourselves out of the mire before we get too deep. Then we don't think about it again until the quicksand closes over our heads and it occurs to us "oh, maybe I was wrong...". But of course most of the time something comes along and pulls us out and gives us a second chance. And what do we do? "Hey man, let's go play near the quicksand again! And tomorrow we can check out the middle of Rt. 13!" Some people's inner rebel really needs to be quiet.
