BlackICE? Yeah, heard of it causing problems. I use ZoneAlarm. Buge me sometimes, but at least it works right most of the time.
Don't know how your hard drive could've been the initial suspect, because if a hard drive attempted to read or write to a bad sector, Windows wouldn't crash (unless it was attempting to page out a portion of the Windows kernel to the swap file), you'd just get one of those annoying balloon popups saying something about a CRC failure.
If you ever get one of those, backup your shit and get a new hard drive on standby, cuz if the drive isn't dead by the time your backup finishes, it'll go out within a week or two.
