Hello! Anata here with a quick guest post. I have a number of guest posts to make but have fallen behind. Reb isn't pleased. That said, here's the first guest post on her blog!
If there's one food truck that I never get tired of going to (but try my best to avoid at the same time - what a love hate relationship), it would be Mom's Grilled Cheese. Their Thursday special, The Jackson 3, is way too good to pass up and I've always told my buddy at work, Matt, that we're overdue. So, after multiple rain checks - either one of us are out of town or at a client site...
...Here. We. Are. And what a glorious spring day for cheese.
Mom's are well known for their pricey yet gigantic grilled cheese sandwiches. Cheese lovers can go for the make-it-yourself:
- Pick your bread - Can't go wrong with sourdough. Or White. Or Multigrain you're feeling guilty.
- Pick your cheese - Always love my provolone. Or cheddar. Or Swiss.
- Add some "POW" to it - Tomatoes, onions
- And, of course, the "oh baby" factor - Bacon. Double Cheese...
Or, can choose their daily special. This is what Matt and I come for on a Thursday. The Jackson 3: Three slices of sourdough and three majestic cheeses: Brie, Boursin, Gruyere.
Matt always gets his with a dose of tomatoes and onions. He decided to be “healthy” and opt out of the bacon. Myself on the other hand? I can't say no to bacon.
Grilled, sliced in half, and wrapped in a paper cone. Mom's always puts a handful of Hardbite chips and the optional pickle to top it off. And there you have it, a well-balanced healthy meal with all your daily requirements! I mean, hey, you get your dairy, grains, dairy, protein, dairy, and even vegetables (pfft. yeah, right).
There's just something about the combination of Brie, Boursin, and Gruyere that I can't say no to. The boursin's cream cheese taste complements the Brie and Gruyere quite well. And with the heat of the grill they become gooey - but not too gooey! Less mess, less stress. That said you have to prepare your stomach to tame this beast - and we came prepared.
The total for my sandwich came to 12 dollars. It's quite a hefty price, but it's great to indulge once in a while. The Mom's crew always serves the sandwich with a smile and they remember faces quite well - regulars always get a little bit of extra cheese, bacon, chips, or pickles.
Anytime between Noon to 1:30pm on a sunny summer day can result in waits of 15-30 minutes for the sandwich. So be sure to beat that weekday lunch rush, or wait it off like we usually do at work.
