Table: Neptune Wonton Noodle

Anata was craving some good ol' fashioned wonton noodle soup style food, I did a quick google search and came up with Neptune Wonton Noodle. It's open late, but still terrifically busy on a weekend night.

The servers were so busy with the tables that it took a while for us to receive the menus, but we eventually ordered and got our food.

Anata went for the char siu noodle soup, and it came with the meat on a side plate. The broth was nice and clear, but extremely salty. It kind of tasted like a foundational broth for their sharksfin soup or something like that. The taste was good, but it was much too salty. The noodles were nice and a little chewy while soft.

The pork was tasty, and had some texture to it. I would have liked it more if it was softer, but otherwise it was tasty.

I ordered the snack size beef and bitter melon. I really like how they cut the pieces up more finely than other places, and the bitter taste was strong. I'm pretty used to this vegetable, so for those who don't like the bitter taste I really don't recommend ordering this. The beef was on the sweet side, which came from the oyster sauce marinade, and I enjoyed the cookery - the beef was nice and tender, and the melon cooked through but still with texture.

Anata ordered some tofu, and it was nice and crisp. Dipped in the vinegar it was good, but alone it was on the salty side. Not oily, and the crispiness was very light and kind of airy on the inside.

I also ordered the oyster and roast pork casserole, and as far as I'm concerned this dish was definitely all about the oysters! They were huge and juicy, and I loved how the edges were a bit crispy with the inside still nice and soft and flavourful. Really pleased with this order, and would definitely come back just to eat this again! The roast pork pieces were quite small by comparison, and they were a little on the dry side, but were easily overlooked for the oysters.

Good quality food, but probably with a little MSG to help it along. Service was on the poorer side due to how busy they were. When we wanted the bill and the leftovers packed away, Anata and I were making it into a game of getting a server's attention. We eventually were settled and had the food packed up, but it took them quite a while, since they were scurrying everywhere!

Overall we were really pleased with the food, and though the service wasn't that good, it's easy to excuse when you see how busy they are.
