So terribly sorry for this so very old log. This was dated back almost a year ago and I have no real excuse for my negligence in posting it than the mere fact I actually forgotten about it.

He couldn't get away.

He was too weak to run, too tired, too much in pain. Yet he kept running as best as he could, rushing forward through the corridors of the mansion, looking for a place to hide. The corridors seemed endless, the ceiling high as he ran on with his little legs. Why was he a child again?

The man was gaining on him. Again. If he couldn't run faster, he'd get caught.

Kyouya stumbled, almost falling over. Somehow, he managed to get back to his feet and continue running, but the footsteps behind him were closer now.

He didn't turn around to look. He couldn't.

"Get back here!" A sharp, commanding voice, one he only ever heard in tones of order or discipline. His father's voice.

Like he would. Rather, he tried to run even faster, summoning what little strength he had left to get around the next corner. Maybe there, he would find somewhere to hide.

Just a couple of steps. Just a couple of steps, and he could get away from the man's sight.

He ran around the corner, and found himself staring up at his father's thunderous face.

Kyouya screamed.

Dino was startled as he heard Kyouya’s scream. He was still working, not yet sleeping, so it took only mere seconds for him to get alert and hastily approached his lover who was still sleeping on the bed.

At least, Dino thought he was still sleeping, as Kyouya’s eyes were still closed tightly.

Worry gnawed on Dino’s chest as Kyouya didn’t stop screaming, his feverish face twisted into scared expression and he was restless, almost as if he was running away from something in his dream. Sitting on the bed side, Dino took hold of Kyouya’s shoulders, trying to cease the man’s trashing before speaking in somewhat loud tone, “Kyouya! Kyouya, wake up! It’s just a nightmare, it will go once you wake up!”

It took Kyouya some time to realize what Dino was saying, too deep in his dreams to realize what was going on. At last the voice broke through his dreams, though, and Kyouya's eyes flew open, staring at Dino in horror.

"No," he gasped, his tone still fearful.

Looking at the horror in Kyouya’s eyes made Dino’s heart twisted and he immediately let go of the man’s shoulders and pulled away slightly, not wanting to scare the man even more. Hazel eyes watched in worry as Kyouya tried to gather himself.

“It’s just a nightmare, Love. You’re safe here.” he whispered softly, wiping the sweat away from Kyouya’s forehead.

It took him a moment, but at last Kyouya managed to convince himself he was safe in their bed in the Cavallone Mansion. Blinking up at his lover, he managed a soft whisper of, "...Dino?"

Dino’s chest hurt as he heard such vulnerability in Kyouya’s tone, yet somehow he managed to give the man a reassuring smile. “Yes. I’m here, Kyouya. You’re safe. No one’s going to get you while I’m here.” he returned in a whisper also, very much wanting to gather his beloved into his arms, but restraining himself for now.

"...Ah." Kyouya closed his eyes. "He's not here..."

Silence for a moment. “...Your father?” The man even haunted Kyouya in his dreams? Oh, Dino would love to kill that bastard as soon as he could meet him.

"Yes." As though there was any other man who could make him scream in fear.

Dino finally gave into his feeling and gathered Kyouya into his arms, hugging the man lightly and caressing his hair. “If he dares to come here, I will immediately shoot him down.”

"He caught me," Kyouya murmured. "I ran and ran and he caught me..."

Closing his eyes briefly, Dino tried to swallow down his hate for the bastard. That man was not here at the moment. Now, the most important thing is to calm Kyouya down. “He won’t capture you. I won’t let him and you won’t have to run anymore once he’s dead.” Which would be soon if Dino had any say in it.

"I know," Kyouya murmured. "I shouldn't be this afraid..." Yet he was terrified. Terrified, petrified, his heart still racing from the nightmare. Not all the shivers running through him were due to his fever.

Dino caressed Kyouya’s back softly, trying to soothe the man. “I’ve heard that... children’s memory is actually really strong. They could remember everything, even things that happened while they were asleep. It’s ingrained in the subconscious. Maybe that’s why you feel... this strongly to your father.”

"I got away from him already. It shouldn't still be this hard..."

Not completely. “...Maybe you’ll feel glad once he really is dead.” Dino murmured.

"Once he's dead and I've figured out what to do with the rest of the accursed family."

Cold. So cold.

Dino hugged Kyouya tighter as he felt the man shivering. He kissed Kyouya’s forehead softly. “You’ll be free from him soon, Kyouya. He won’t haunt you like this ever again.” From this close, Dino could feel that Kyouya still had a fever.

"I wish I could just forget he even exists..."

“I don’t think that’s possible,” Dino chuckled wryly. “Despite anything, he was the one who made you like this.” He meant it in the better way, of course.

Kyouya coughed. "You mean, an immoral, violent bastard?"

“I mean someone who is so determined and tough, Kyouya.”

"If that's what you want to call it..." A broken chuckle this time, before he winced. "...Not so tight, Cavallone."

“Sorry!” Dino said hastily, letting go of his hug. He gazed at Kyouya’s face for a moment. “Feel a little bit better now?”

"A bit." Kyouya closed his eyes for a moment. "I don't want to go to sleep." Only because he'd been sleeping so much lately, of course. Obviously it had nothing to do with the nightmare.

“Warm milk or coffee, which one do you prefer?”

"Coffee."

Dino nodded. “Alright. I will ask someone to bring it here.” he said before kissing Kyouya’s forehead once again and standing up. He, then, walked out from the room for few minutes.

Kyouya gathered the covers closer to himself. He was so cold... but he couldn't go to sleep. Not now. Not after that.

When Dino went back into the room, he held two cup of coffee in his hands. Closing the door silently behind him, he walked up to the bed, offering one of the cup to Kyouya.

Kyouya somehow managed to sit up, starting to take small sips of the coffee. It did good to his exhausted, freezing body.

Dino took a sip of his own coffee too. It felt nice and warm and certainly managed to decrease his exhaustion if only for a little bit. He sat down on the bed and sighed. “I will probably take a break from my work for a moment.” he murmured.

"No need to do so for my sake." Kyouya shook his head. "Romario is probably exasperated with me as it is."

“It’s not only for your sake,” he shrugged. “I’m quite tired right now. It might be good to get some sleep sometime soon.”

"'s what you say." He was so tired, so tired and sick. "Just don't fall asleep on top of me or anything."

“I won’t fall asleep on top of you.” Not when Kyouya was this sick. Not that he usually did too. He finished his coffee and put the empty cup on the bed side table before turning his attention back at Kyouya.

“You look bad, Kyouya.” He observed in worry. “It might be good for you to get some more sleep...”

"Perhaps so, but I don't want any more of that dream."

“Will it help if I hold you while you’re sleeping?”

"...Why don't we find out?"

Dino smiled. “Right now or do you want to wait for a little longer?”

"Maybe in a moment." Not right away. Not yet.

“Okay.” Dino accepted Kyouya’s answer easily. He, then, walked up to his desk work and tidied up the papers scattered on it. There were still some papers he should finish, true, but they could wait until tomorrow. Kyouya is more important than work, after all.

It took Kyouya a moment, spent mainly sipping at his coffee, to gather himself properly. It quite helped that he was still very much sick; otherwise, he would not have dreamed of going back to bed right after a cup of coffee. Now, it just sounded... appropriate.

As soon as his desk was tidy enough, Dino walked back to the bed, discarding his shirt first, and crawled in. He lie himself down beside Kyouya, groaning softly. “I miss this bed.” he mumbled.

"That's what you get for burying yourself in work."

“I thought you’ll praise me for actually doing my work seriously this time.” Dino pouted.

"Oh, I do not blame you for that. It is good, after all. However, after that, you have little room to complain." Kyouya himself, of course, had plenty of cause to complain about everything. Now he pushed aside a couple of the most obvious reasons, drawing close to Dino's warm body.

One cup of coffee would not do much to keep him up.

“It was just one complaint. One that was not actually a complaint, too.” Dino shot back even as he gathered Kyouya’s body close to him again. “It’s not like I always complain about my work...”

"Mmm..." He didn't want to sleep, not really, yet despite the coffee he found himself sinking right back into the exhausted slumber he had broken free from. Dino's body heat fought back the deep coldness within him.

Hearing Kyouya’s reply, Dino fell silent. Apparently the man was already dozing off again. Not surprising, considering he was still having a fever. The older man moved his hand to caress Kyouya’s back soothingly and whispered, “I will look after you, Kyouya. No one will hurt you again.”

"'M not weak," Kyouya murmured in response. "'M not a child..."

“Yes, you’re not. I’d never think you’re weak, but I’d hope you’ll let me protect you. At least this time.” Dino whispered in return. “You can rely on me this once, Kyouya.”

"Just this once..." Just this once, he would trust that Dino could keep those sharp eyes out of his dreams.

“Yes, this once.” and other times when Kyouya would need him. Of course Dino didn’t say it out loud, though, because he knew Kyouya would only refuse if he heard it. Kissing the man’s feverish forehead, Dino vowed to himself to always protect the man in his arms.

Kyouya never spoke up, falling back to his slumber, hoping beyond hope it would be empty of any such cruel whispers.

Dino kept caressing Kyouya’s back soothingly, even when the man’s breath had went deep and stable, a sign that he was asleep already. He kept on doing that until his eyes felt too heavy to be opened and sleep took over his exhausted body.
