The black of her hair. The blue of her eyes. Her ivory skin. Aria, whispered his brain, she’s just like her mother. And suddenly it was hard to distinguish the once-fine line between absolute loyalty and absolute devotion.

Eyebrows wrinkling in irritation, Gamma gave a quiet groan, bringing a palm to his forehead - this was simply not the appropriate time to think of such things. There were reports in his briefcase - half of them, he knew, would quickly bore his young boss to no end. The other half, however, were prepared for that reason alone - he would have to distract her with random, but nonetheless interesting, stories about the Giglio Nero - for a short while, that is; she had been away from home for a long, long time, and Gamma, being a mere subordinate, could not keep every thing in control by himself. Sooner or later, Donna Giglio Nero would have to, even for a brief moment, take on her responsibilities and swim through paperwork.

The cafe was not far from the University and it was one that Yuni had known quite well since its quite popular because of its coziness and the delicious desserts it offered. The young Donna was certainly very happy to meet with her beloved Right Hand Man. Oh, how she had missed Gamma! She had been waiting for the day to meet him again, just talking with him via mail or video calls was not enough, and she was ecstatic for the meeting today.

Yuni entered the cafe. Her warm blue eyes immediately searched for the person that once had been number one in her heart. Now, even if Gamma’s position had been replaced with Adelheid, Yuni still cared about the man. A lot. Once she caught sight of him, Yuni’s smile brightened and she walked towards the man’s table.

The Princess of Giglio Nero didn’t stop once she was in front of him, simply throwing herself into the man’s arms happily. “Gamma! I miss you so much!” said the Princess while hugging Gamma tightly.

“Princess -” Gamma had began with his usual smile, then paused when he felt the girl’s body pressed up against his. With blood rushing up to his cheeks at extreme speed, Gamma hugged back, slowly raising his arms with ungainly movements as they interlocked around his boss’s back. Never mind the few onlookers. He could as well be her father, in their eyes. “I missed you too, Princess.”

Yuni let go of her hug after a while and she beamed at Gamma. “I’m really glad you are here finally, Gamma.” she said softly before her smile faltered slightly. “Although, how’s the family? Whom do you put in charge while you and I are here, Gamma? I’m sure you won’t leave the family unattended.”

Seems like the princess had matured a little, if not by a great amount. Widening his smile so that it emanated nothing but assurance, Gamma reached down for his briefcase, pulling it up and gently balancing it on his lap as he answered Yuni’s inquiry: “The family is fine. There’s nothing to worry about, Princess. Nazaru and Tozaru are in charge... sort of,” a playful wink, “they are sending daily reports to me, though.”

“Anyways,” he coughed, before opening the briefcase and extracting a thin plastic folder out, “there are a few things Princess must look at. Things concerning the family’s financial position.”

A soft giggle escaped from Yuni’s lips when she heard Gamma’s answer. Oh, she knew Nazaru and Tozaru very well to understand that they would certainly do a really good job in looking after the family while Yuni and Gamma were away, no matter how often they bicker with each other.

When she saw the plastic folder that Gamma had pulled out, Yuni’s face turned serious although her sweet smile was still there. “Sure. Is there anything I should be looking for or is anything still in control?” she asked while taking a seat in front of the man.

“Like I said, there’s nothing to worry about. Our total assets are still greater than our total liabilities, which we do not have much of.” He handed the folder to Yuni. “However, a number of family members - I’m not saying who - have been suggesting a pay rise. If Princess agrees to this, we must cut down on a few expenses in order to keep the family’s finances balanced.”

Yuni smiled softly. “If they deserve to get the rise then I will certainly agree to it. What do you think, Gamma? I’m quite sure that we’ll manage to cover the lose of money easily, I just want to know your opinion about this. Do you think it will increase the men’s spirit if I do give them a raise, or will it just make them lazier?”

It was just like Yuni to immediately agree to such a request. Her generosity reflected her mother’s, noticed Gamma as he watched her. He then gave a faint blush, before proceeding to answer his boss’s inquiry. “I suppose they do deserve the rise,” he nodded. And it was true - with Yuni away for over a month, the family would have crumpled (slightly), had it not been for the sudden increase in every member’s efficiency. Yuni was the mayonnaise in the family sandwich; without her, every thing would be falling apart.

“As for their laziness,” continued Gamma, “the pay rise won’t be that high, unfortunately, but I will send an email to every one of them as a small warning. Also, do note that we will have to cut down on purchasing, uh, new dresses; Princess, our original plan was to create a brand-new dressing room for your next return to Italy, whenever that will be.”

“Eh?” The Princess of Giglio Nero blinked. “A brand-new dressing room for me...?” she said in disbelieve tone before a giggle torn its way from Yuni’s lips. The girl shook her head in amusement before saying, “Why would I need that? Really, you all are so silly sometimes.” Yuni said in fond exasperation.

“I’d rather put the money for the family members. I’m alright with my dresses at the moment. I appreciate the gesture and your good will, but let’s just use the money for a better case, alright?” The girl grinned. “I wouldn’t want to be a bad Donna because I underpaid my family members.”

“We just wanted to see Princess smile,” assured Gamma, face growing quite hot at his own words, “not that Princess doesn’t do so already,” he hastily added, “it’s... well... okay, we’ll save the dressing room for later.” Leaning back, he gathered the file back into his briefcase with a slightly theatrical sigh. “Our work is done now. Would Princess like to stay for a casual talk?”

Really, sometimes Yuni was utterly amazed by the length her family would do only to make her smile. The girl shook her head and reached out her hand to cover Gamma’s bigger one. “Seeing you all happy is more than enough to make me smile.” She said sincerely, blue eyes gazing straight into Gamma’s.

Yuni held her Right Hand Man’s gaze for a little while before smiling warmly and let go of Gamma’s hand. “I’d love to talk with you, Gamma. Please, don’t be so formal, now that the work is done, I’d like to talk with you as a family, not as a Boss.”

Cue blush number three. Catching the blues of Yuni’s eyes, Gamma smiled back. At the touch of her hand, the decision of leaving Nozaru and Tazaru in charge of the family’s business back home suddenly seemed less stupid. “Anything Princess wants,” nodded the right hand man as he leaned back, just a little, to rest his shoulders against the chair. Italy was a long way to Japan; jet lag proved difficult to defeat at times. “How is your... grandmother?” He asked out of the blue, though still rather hesitant around the subject of Luce - the fact that she was Aria’s mother... Aria’s mother... pregnant with Aria...

“Are you tired, Gamma?” Yuni asked, worry clear in her tone as she saw her Right Hand Man. She knew that jet lag could be a bother sometimes and, although it was not much, Gamma most likely would feel the effect even now. The smile only grew as she heard Gamma’s question. “Grandmother is great. It’s really amazing that I’m able to talk with her like this. I really can’t wait until I see mama again! I hope I’ll still be here when Grandmother delivers her.” she said.

Her smile then faltered slightly, though, and she look hesitant for a moment before speaking up, “Hey, Gamma, may I ask you something?”

“Hmm?” Gamma blinked, although he was thankful for Yuni’s voice drawing him away from his subconscious daydream. “Oh, no, not at all, not tired at all,” he hastily assured the girl, although he was very much exhausted, “but thank you for your concern. ...That’s good,” the right hand gave a nod of approval at Luce’s apparent well being. Nonetheless, the air around him began tightening at the words mama and delivers. “I can’t wait as well,” said Gamma. And it was no lie.

“You can ask me anything,” instinctively his shoulders tensed, quite aware of the falter of Yuni’s smile.

Yuni knew that Gamma most likely was not telling the whole truth when he said that he was not tired, but she didn’t say anything, merely sighed in exasperation. “Don’t push yourself too hard, Gamma. Stop working and take a break if you’re tired, that’s an order!” she said in as strict of a tone as she could muster.

“Oh, you don’t need to be so tense like that!” The Princess of Giglio Nero giggled slightly when she saw her Right Hand Man’s obvious tenseness. “It’s not a really serious question, you see. I’m just... wondering of something.” the hesitation was back in Yuni’s voice, but she shouldered on. Catching Gamma’s eyes, Yuni finally uttered her question in clear voice.

“Did you love my mother? Did you love her more than just a Boss?”

“Yes, Donna Giglio Nero!” Immediately Gamma straightened in his seat, sending his young boss a small salute. Inside, he suppressed a moutainload of laughter; for a brief moment, the tension had been lifted off his shoulders and dissipated in the air. Then it returned once more; he could feel the scruples circulating in Yuni’s voice as she spoke.

“...” Gamma said nothing, instead just bowed his head, breaking the connection between his eyes and Yuni’s. Halfway up his throat, the answer - a firm yes! - had made its way through. And then it melted into nothing the moment his mouth opened. No sound came out.

“I -” began Gamma, eventually having found his voice, “I love the family; I even love your grandmother... I love Aria and -” he stopped. I love you, Princess.

Yuni waited patiently as Gamma seemed to gather himself. She knew that her question might seem very sudden and surprising for the man but, actually, she had been thinking about that for quite a while now.

Gamma’s answer made Yuni smiled. It was not her usual warm smile, though, but rather a small smile tinged with melancholy. She knew very well that Gamma’s answer hid lots of the feelings the man actually felt.

“I see.” she responded shortly. “Thank you.”

From the beginning of his answer, Gamma had predicted disappointment from Yuni. Feelings were not an obscure subject to Gamma - however, for him to convey so much of them regarding such a sensitive topic would feel completely out of place. He still thought of Aria every day - even night - to say he missed her was no lie at all.

But the Giglio Nero were mafiosi. They were not supposed to have feelings. Supposed to.

“Princess,” he picked himself up, “don’t worry - if you’re worrying, that is,” he quickly added, feigning ignorance, “I’ll always be here for you, whether as a part of the family or not.”

“No, I’m not worrying.” Yuni shook her head with a small smile. “I know that you’ll always be there for me. I-” again, Yuni hesitated for a moment or two. “You’ve always been... the most important person for me, Gamma. You were the first person who pledge your loyalty to me and you were the one who always guides me through everything.” The girl lifted her head to gaze at Gamma’s eyes. “I’m really grateful for that.”

Yuni’s voice possessed a certain, almost mystical, power; one breath of voice through her lips and Gamma would be sure to drop every and any thing he was holding and just listen to her. This time, his head, bowed, slowly rose. Their eyes met once more.

The two of them held each other’s gaze for another moment or two, before a warm smile appeared on Yuni’s face and she diverted her gaze away, a slight blush appearing on her face. “Gamma, may I know how do you feel for me? Do you think of me... as your daughter?” It was another question that had been bugging Yuni for quite a long time, after all.

There were many things, accumulated over the years of being with Yuni, that had to be said - at least, that was how Gamma felt; somehow, anything regarding Princess Giglio Nero would begin as a want, then slowly merge with the elements of a need, until the once-clear line separating desire and necessity eventually dusted away; they had become one.

But the words were dead in his throat. Gaze still focused on Yuni, Gamma froze, shoulders now tenser than ever. A frosty bead of sweat trickled down one side of his face, chilled and lethargic. The silence was embarrassing.

Yuni waited and waited for Gamma to answer her question, but, as the man kept his silence even after a long time, she fidgeted and dropped her gaze onto her lap. “I- I’m sorry. I shouldn’t ask something so embarrassing like that!” she said, face red with embarrassment.

“N-no, it’s fine, it’s okay, really,” assured Gamma, the smile pulling at his lips rather weak; it was not fine. “I understand that Princess is curious and - ...tell me about your new friend,” he hastily changed the topic, “Adelheid... Suzuki, is it?”

“Ah, yes, Adel-san...” Yuni could only smile vaguely even when Gamma brought up her room mate’s name. She was still trying to forget the awkward silence that had settled between her and her Right Hand Man just moments ago. “Adel-san is... an amazing woman, Gamma. I’d love to introduce you to her. I’m sure you two will get along really well.”

“Is she?” Gamma nodded mechanically. Yuni’s inquiry still half echoed in his ears. “That’s good. Well, if Princess says the two of us will get along, then I won’t deny that.” In the back of his mind, however, he faintly remembered a pair of watermelon-sized breasts - or, at least, the mention of such organs. A quiet blush then luminated his cheeks when a sudden image of a clothes-less Aria invaded his imagination. Holy hats.

“Does she belong to the Shimon famiglia?” He instantly blurted out.

Yuni was a very observant girl, so she surely noticed the faint blush that appeared on Gamma’s face, but she didn’t say anything about it, thinking that perhaps it appeared because Gamma was imagining Adel-san’s most obvious body part. Almost all males seemed to be flustered when they were thinking of Adel-san’s breasts. Well, males who are straight, of course.

The little girl nodded to answer Gamma’s question, her smile becoming a little bit more genuine this time. It was easy to smile when she was talking about Adel-san. “Yes, she is. Adel-san loves her family very much. It makes me envy her family, sometimes.” Not that Yuni would ever think that her family’s love for her was any less than Adel-san’s love to the Shimon famiglia, of course.

There was a brief hitch of Gamma’s breath when he listened to Yuni speak. Envy her family? This could only mean there was something wrong with the Giglio Nero, something Yuni was probably too modest to announce. He had to ask her what it was was, ask her now; risking his boss to another family had already happened once. The results were terrible.

“I see,” he finally replied, “well, it’s nice to know Princess is enjoying her stay at the university,” an image of Byakuran, violet tattoo and white hair, appeared in his head. He gave it a mental shoo, before continuing: “Is there anything else? You have class soon.”

Yuni caught on to Gamma’s sudden change of composure and she hastily said, “Of course I love Giglio Nero the most, Gamma! I will never change anything, especially not you guys!” the girl’s eyes shone with conviction when she said that, wanting the man to believe her.

The girl’s smile returned back to her face when she heard Gamma’s next words and she nodded. “Yes. I really enjoy this despite the bad things that sometimes happen.” Not that there had been lots of bad things, anyway. “I’m sure you’ll enjoy your stay here too!”

“Oh, my! You’re right, I do have a class soon!” her eyes widened. She had truly forgotten about that since she was too happy and excited to meet you. “I wish we can talk a little bit longer, though...”

He believed her. Gamma could not remember a time when Yuni ever thought of leaving, even betraying, the Giglio Nero. Such an abomination would never happen; they were a tightly bonded unit, a family; they were - an image of Genkishi flashed in his mind. Except him.

“You better be quick,” nodded Gamma, “I’ll escort you.” He smiled. “We can always talk whenever you want, Princess, so long as you’re not in class. Your wish is my command.”

Yuni returned Gamma’s smile and nodded. She had to be quick indeed if she wanted to arrive in the class on time. “Okay, then.” she said before standing up from her seat and waited until Gamma had paid before walking out of the restaurant with the older man.

Well, their conversation was rather short, but Yuni was glad she could talk with Gamma face to face like this. She would have to talk with him again later, that’s for sure.
