OOC - FEEL FREE TO START A NEW THREAD AND IGNORE HIM (: xx100dontkillme October 31 2008, 06:22:21 UTC
Tsuan knew the only way not to think about problems was to get busy, so he did. The day flew by in a whirl of documents and negotiations, and dusk was welcoming. The brunette was about to devour his overdue lunch when his secretary slid in, stilettos clicking, covering his bento with a long white box. If he needed a memory refresher, her cocktail dress (too short) did the trick. Glad that he was backlit by the new moon, embarrassment of his lack of a memory power subtly hidden by shadows, Tsuna lifted the lid, amber eyes politely adverted. She mentioned something about time and arrangements but he barely heard her exit. Because nestled in pale crinkled paper was one of the most exquisite things he ever laid eyes on.

A cloak of midnight blue, so dark it reminded him of the raven's wings, if not for the glossy sheen and lapis satin details near the shoulders. He ran a long finger down the smooth fabric and felt it catch at something cool. The Vongola Crest. The polished gunmetal of the insignia was so small one would miss it if you ( ... )

Yamamoto wandered up towards the town hall, already dressed in his costume. His wasn't the most creative costume in the world for him, even he knew that, but it was his favourite! After all, Babe Ruth was the best baseball player in the world and Babe Ruth's Red Sox uniform was pretty cool.

Seeing Tsuna on the steps of the town hall, he jogged up. "Hey Tsuna~ You're looking great!"

He was just fretting over the problem of being a maskless host in a masquerade when he heard a familiar voice. Stopping at the landing of the stairs, he turned to see... a baseball player? No. It's Yamamoto and Tsuna nearly laughed. It was just like the other to come in a baseball uniform. It fit like a second skin. Pushing the pre-event butterflies in his stomach and the blush that was threatening to cover even his neck at the compliment (he wasn't very good at receiving them), the brunette let a weak smile play on his lips. He fingered his cloak, grasping for an appropriate reply. "Sasuga," he finally said, albeit lamely, but the smile grew in strength when he met the other's guileless gaze. But it's a masquerade... Tsuna blinked, realisation dawning on his face.

"Won't your costume tell everyone who you are Yamamoto?" The brunette asked, thoughtful look on his face. He was more concerned for the other than himself, completely forgetting that he was in a similar predicament.

Yamamoto rubbed the back of his head and gave a sheepish laugh. "I completely forgot about the mask, Tsuna. Anyway, I think everybody will know it's me as soon as I talk." Now that he thought about it, he could have gotten a catcher's mask or something similar. Yamamoto gave a shrug; it was too late to go back to his house and get one.

"What about you, Tsuna?"

ooc - I think Marmon is going to set up a mini booth to peddle his masks so :) xx100dontkillme October 31 2008, 15:14:53 UTC
Which defeats the purpose of a masquerade, he thought, racking his brains for some sort of solution. With the same embarrassed look, (more so for the host) he stammered sheepishly, "I was in a r-rush and..."

Tsuna was trying to cover up his lack of organisational skills when coordination, overwhelming gravity and the absence of friction slapped him in the face. The marble flooring of the town hall was rushing up to meet him as his Italian brogues slid on air. The brunette squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself for the familiar impact and pain. He only prayed that nobody saw him slip up. Or perhaps the earth will open up and swallow him whole now.

A man could hope and Tsuna allowed himself to dream of the impossible, like maybe he would find amazing balance and right himself up before falling flat. On his event. At the entrance. Maybe nobody was there yet. Maybe.

Yamamoto was still contemplating what he could use as a mask around the town hall when when he saw Tsuna lose his balance. That didn't look good, Yamamoto thought and hurriedly moved to brace Tsuna from behind. He wasn't a professional athlete any more, but he still kept himself in good shape and thus kept his balance on the steps even as he dropped down a step due to Tsuna's extra weight.

"Tsuna, you alright there?"

Never fear, Marmon is here! writes4money October 31 2008, 15:59:55 UTC
Marmon sat behind a small table covered with masks which he had set up earlier. Knowing it was a masquerade and that there was bound to be some people mask-less, he realized it was a good chance for him to earn a bit more money.

It was getting late already and he hoped that the party would be starting soon since he was hungry. Not to mention he wasn't feeling that well today, but he wasn't sure what was wrong. He'd rather not have come at all but he couldn't give up free food as well as a good excuse to make more money.

Down the hall he heard voices. He pushed his magician's hat up so he could see better. It was a bit too big and kept sliding down over his eyes. He glanced over in the direction of the entrance in time to see Tsuna slip and Yamamoto quickly stepping behind him to keep him steady.

Marmon was about to make some remark about Tsuna being useless when he noticed neither had a mask. Lovely.

"Hey," he called, "you forget your masks?"

So it looked like dreams could come true, even though it wasn't exactly what he was hoping but hey! beggars can't be choosers, not when Yamamoto just saved him from kissing the marble floor. Righting himself up quickly, he attempted to dust himself off, mind all over the place. Pretending was now second nature for the brunette when he heard... Marmon. And saw. Masks. Rows and rows of masks, a kaleidescope of rainbow light. Tsuna felt a rush of relief flood his senses because suddenly Marmon had become his favorite person in the whole wide world. Amen.

Hoping Yamamoto would get a clue and follow him, the brunette made himself believe that the host examining the quality of the goods sold was perfectly normal. He deftly picked out the first one that caught his eye. A delicate thing of velvet. A paper face of deepest turquoise, shot with silver edges and a hint of burnt gold at the eyes.

Glad to see that his friend and boss recovered alright from the near fall, Yamamoto followed after Tsuna, spotting the mask stand Marmon was running immediately. Right away he knew what Tsuna had in mind, he moved as inconspicuously as he could beside Tsuna, glancing down at the masks available.

None of the masks Marmon had really suited his costume (almost all of them were mask with lots of glitter and decorations), but it was better than nothing. He spotted a black half-mask with red glitter at the edges near the eyes and shrugged. Well, the red matched his baseball uniform at least.

it's awesome and you know it writes4money October 31 2008, 16:41:19 UTC
Marmon watched as Tsuna and Yamamoto looked over the collection of masks. As if curious as to why the head of Vongola was there, several other attendees had gathered around his table as well.

He glanced over at Tsuna and saw that he had picked up a mask and was looking over it carefully. "Hnn, that's a nice one. You can have it." Maybe he was being too generous, but it was just a mask. And besides, it was thanks to Tsuna that there were now some idiots willing to buy his overpriced masks.

"You can have that too." he said, indicating the mask Yamamoto held.

<3 Marmon is sick in the heart D< xx100dontkillme October 31 2008, 16:59:15 UTC
Marmon was definitely his favourite person for the night, Tsuna decided, mentally reminding himself to do something of the same value for the other. He had a file on Marmon in his office (kudos to his PA who insisted that he understand his subordinates) which made him question the validity of the information. Marmon-san isn't all about money. He's nice... when he wants to. He berated himself for thinking ill of his colleague, that wouldn't do. Giving the magician a meaningful look (though he couldn't see Marmon's eyes from that hat), he mumbled a word of thanks before strapping the mask on gingerly. It was so light he almost didn't feel it. Good quality stuff. Well it looks like the file was right on the business brain part, Tsuna thought as the crowd suddenly swelled, jostling him forward but the brunette was prepared now. Quickly he side-stepped them and tore himself away from Yamamoto, sorry he had to leave a friend. But he could hear people calling that name, faceless voices seeking him out and that was the last thing he wanted. ( ... )

"Thanks a lot, Marmon-san! You're the best." Yamamoto said happily and put the mask on. There, now he wasn't the only one in the crowd without a mask on. He really should have remembered that it was a masquerade, not just a costume party. Maybe he could bring some sushi for Marmon one day at work for lunch? That was worth a thought.

Just then he felt the crowd pressing in on him and Yamamoto looked around for Tsuna to find him gone in the crowd already. Might as well take the chance to say hi to other co-workers, he thought and melted into the crowd as well.

Gokudera almost ran up the stairs of the town hall. He caught his breath at the top, loosening his tie and unbuttoning the top of his shirt as he did so. He looked around as he walked inside, wondering if the boss or anyone familiar had come early.

He was almost paralyzed with work and had to go to another place briefly for an appointment before rushing to the party. When he was speeding towards the party, it was only then that he remembered: one has to wear a costume and a mask at the party. Silently swearing, Gokudera had to run to the nearest shop: a toy store in the middle of nowhere.

Now, Gokudera's still sporting a suit, somewhat rumpled and a little rugged-looking. He wore some accessories he had kept in his overnight bag and bought some chain-looking things to wear around his neck and on his pants (they said it was the 'in' thing). He also bought toy guns, one small and plays a shooting sound when it's trigger's pulled and another larger one that had no sound but looked almost real.

Yamamoto gave Gokudera a brilliant grin as the other came up to him. He wasn't exactly sure what the other man was supposed to be, maybe an spy like James Bond? "Hey~ Gokudera-kun. Working late again? You just missed Tsuna~ I lost him in the crowd somewhere."

He looked Gokudera up and down, and then it hit him what the other man was missing. "Where's your mask, Gokudera-kun?"

As much as Gokudera hated to admit it, Yamamoto's costume suited him very much. That boyish grin reeked sports guy. Oh well, Gokudera thought. At least he wasn't wearing an alien suit or a clown or something horrible.

"The boss is here already?" Gokudera said, eying the crowd around them. The boss was not in sight. He probably fled somewhere to breathe. Sometimes, the boss could be so terrified of large crowds. Not really agoraphobia, Gokudera thought, but maybe the boss needed a break.

As the question about his mask came up, Gokudera pointed to his sunglasses. "Isn't this enough? I don't want to wear a stupid feathery mask."

Yamamoto, though, seemed to think otherwise. Gokudera suddenly regretted aborting his plans to dress up like a Rubik's cube.
