Went to awesome show at Guthrie (
Caroline, or Change) So So SO amazing and rush tickets are $15 so GO! I do feel slightly bad for promoting Guthrie, when there are also lots of cool small thater projects that need more promotion.
Friday, I hung out with the current Pres of Teach for America. So so so cool to pick his brain about educational policy in the USA. Have contact with So-Cali's TFA's president, who I look forward to learning about LA's school sitch.
Sat I hung out on North Side where there was a community garden being planted by a super diverse crew (including Prince's organization called Love 4 One Another <--really, that's the name of the org.) Able to connect with awesome crew from
Urban Farming & meet director of that org too! Have a sweet LA branch that I look forward to getting to know. I also got to help get water hook up from the city from the fire hydrant. Urban Farming's mission is to end hunger in America via more gardening. I kinda have a crush on small nonprofits with overly-audacious goals.
Sometimes stars align to have really interesting days & conversations. Like with my friend who is in the
Ananya Dance Theatre a community-based women of color social justice artists that do sweet work on local environmental justice issues. Talked about how to present to audiences on difficult issues. Does one spoon feed a solution to leave people with a good feeling of agency? (Write to your legislator today about X issue) How does one prevent burn out in performers (or medical professionals) when issues are so entrenched?
Yesterday, went on fab walk to Crosby Farm where I saw an Otter & catfish swimming in a swamp. Who knew that we had Otters in the Twin Cities?
I'm mapping road trip to LA. I have 9 days to drive. I don't have enough time to see all that I want. I'm in denial that I'll be a resident in a few weeks.
