OK, I'm doing this in a bit of a hurry so it's probably going be long and rambly and not make a lot of sense. Anyway, here goes with some thoughts on The Almost People...
- "Would you like a jelly baby?" UNEXPECTED TOM BAKER SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME. UNEXPECTED DAVID TENNANT ALSO. "I've reversed the jelly baby of the neutron flow" was pretty funny though.
- "You know, I'm starting to get a sense of just how impressive it is to hang out with me." Oh, he is loving this. Getting to show off to himself. Just as well we don't have two Doctors every week, he'd never get anything done.
- I see you, Rory, creeping about.
- Both versions of Cleaves have a Significant Headache. Wonder what's causing that?
- "When they destroy us, the eyes are the last things to melt." Why did you have to say that? Now I'm having flashbacks to Backwards. DNW VISIONS OF RIMMER MELTING THANKS.
- "You said that the TARDIS was stuck in acid, so won't she be damaged?" / "Nah. She's a tough old thing." / "Tough, old, sexy." / "No, tough, dependable, sexy." I hope they keep up this Doctor/TARDIS agenda they've got going. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
- "No offence. Being almost the Doctor is pretty damn impressive." / "Being almost the Doctor's like being no Doctor at all." Amy, how do you know which one your talking to? OK, they just explained about the different shoes but you can't see their feet right now.
- EYEPATCH LADY IS BACK AND FINALLY SHE TELLS HIM! But what the hell, Doctor! "It's nothing to worry about." SEEING CREEPY WOMEN WITH EYEPATCHES WHEREVER YOU GO IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!?
- "Can you die? If you really are the same, then you can die. You can be killed and I might have seen that happen." I like that Amy's jumped to the exact same thought as we all did when we realised there were two Doctors. Although she does seem to have upset him just a bit. Turns out Ganger!Doctor's a bit scary. D:
- RORY WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? And urgh, Ganger!Jen's been melted now! (Or has she? Something funny going on here, I'm sure of it.)
- "It's this wheel. It's just too tough for a girl to turn. Are you feeling strong?" / "I'll break out the big guns." OK, that was funny but seriously Rory, why are you being fooled by such obvious flattery? And she used your hand to operate the machine! Pay attention!
- An inoperable parietal clot. That would explain the headaches then.
- THERE'S A PILE OF MELTED GANGERS WHY. AND THEN IT OPENED IT'S EYES. Rory, I don't blame you for jumping. "Left to rot, fully conscious." AND YET MORE RED DWARF FLASHBACKS.
- Original!Jen's dead! I knew it! Don't trust her, Rory! But argh Buzzer, why did you knock him out?
- EYES IN THE BLOODY WALLS. AND MOUTHS SHOULD NOT OPEN THAT WIDE. This episode is going to scar me for life.
- "Rory Pond, Roranicus Pondicus!" That is my new favourite line.
- Jimmy's son's on the phone. So that's what he was setting up earlier. Ganger!Jimmy's off to save everyone but too late, Original!Jimmy's a goner. :(
- WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? And what are you doing, Dicken? You're a dead man if you go back there!
- The TARDIS likes to make an entrance. ♥
- "Amy, we swapped shoes." You sneaky bastards. Why didn't I realise that before?
- "Push, Amy. But only when she tells you to." WHAT.
- "Well, my death arrives, I suppose." / "But this one we're not invited to." OH CRAP AMY, YOU TOLD THE WRONG ONE.
- A heroic sacrifice from Ganger!Doctor and Ganger!Cleaves, Ganger!Jimmy and Ganger!Ducken are stabilised and Original!Cleaves is cured and is going to tell the world about what happened. Happy ending, right?
- "Contractions." WHAT. SHE'S A GANGER! OH WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING? HE MELTED HER! SHE'S STUCK IN A BOX AND SHE'S HAVING A BABY WITH CREEPY EYEPATCH LADY LOOMING OVER HER WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING.
So to sum up, WHAT JUST HAPPENED? I enjoyed the main story of the episode; I liked how they handled the Gangers, let us see that they aren't monsters and actually, despite the wrongs on their part, neither are the humans. I also thought the two Doctors were nicely used (I am wondering if we might not see Ganger!Doctor again after all). But really, the last few minutes have kind of overshadowed it a bit.
We do seem to have answered some of the questions that I had after the opening two-parter. We know now how the Doctor finds out about his death in The Impossible Astronaut (Amy tells him), why Amy kept seeing the Eyepatch Lady and why the scans were inconclusive (Original!Amy bleeding through to Ganger!Amy). But again, we've raised more questions to replace the ones we've answered.
- Who is Eyepatch Lady and what is she up to? Is she the one who wants Amy and the baby or is she working for someone else?
- When did they make the switch? My first thought was that it happened when she was kidnapped by the Silence but she saw Eyepatch Lady before that. So it must have happened either before this series started or in the three month gap between The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon. Between episodes one and two seems more likely to me. She was on her own for a long stretch of time so it would have been easy to take her. Plus she said she was pregnant before the gap but insisted it was a mistake after they all met up again. It seems to make sense but that doesn't mean anything.
- Why do they want Amy and the baby anyway? Oh, I don't know anymore!
In conclusion, why is it not 6.40pm yet? The anticipation is killing me!
