Niagara Falls, part the third.

After the white water walk, we took the Whirlpool Aero Car for an overhead view of the falls. The light was not really that great, so I didn’t get many awesome photos. However, this is a view of the trees surrounding the basin with the whirlpool at the base of the rapids:

This is the most foliage we got, unfortunately. On the ride home, we went through some areas that were at peak leaves but it is difficult to get a nice photograph from a moving vehicle.

Dinner the first night was at the Skylon Tower, which has great views of Niagara Falls. Friends, if you go to Niagara Falls, do not waste your money on this restaurant. The view is gorgeous, the wine was delicious, the food was shockingly adequate for the prices. This was basically large banquet style food - overcooked proteins with the same sad sides served with every dish, brought to the table under the same sad silver cloches they use in the first class compartment on airplanes. Even the salads were unimpressive as overdressed dishes of chopped iceberg lettuce. This was certainly the low point of our trip.

The following day, having basically done all of the major falls tourism events on the Canada side, we went a little north to the wine region on Niagara on the Lake. The boyfriend had not been wine tasting before with me, and in the middle of the day even he said he was having a surprisingly good time.

We ended up going to seven different vineyards for tastings, with a break for lunch at the Angel Inn, a “haunted” bar in Niagara-on-the-Lake. And then, at the end of the day, the boyfriend even drove me back to a pretty spot I’d seen earlier to try and get better photographs in the evening light.

I bought more wine than I should have, but it was all so delicious! I really want to join the wine club for Coyote Run vineyard. It was one of the smaller vineyards and the one place where I liked every glass of wine they set in front of me. Plus, the people at the tasting counter were warm and friendly and ready to chat. It reminded me more of the smaller vineyards near where my parents live.

A wonderful day!
