Niagara Falls, part the first.

A few weeks ago, I had the absolutely brilliant plan for my boyfriend and I to take a weekend away over Columbus Day weekend to see Niagara Falls. I’d never been there and it’s only a seven hour drive from the city. The boyfriend was more reticent about the plan being that Buffalo in October is not usually the warmest time of the year. But, thanks to global warming, last weekend could not possibly have been better - blue, cloudless skies, warm sun beating down, no too many crowds - in short, perfection. I told my boyfriend he shouldn’t have been such a naysayer, and he told me that I got lucky.

This is possibly (probably) true.

We stayed on the Canadian side of the falls which reminded me strongly of the Jersey shore, complete with rides, midways and a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. In addition to all of that, there are the many different excursions that you can do in and around the falls, all requiring the use of a poncho to stop from getting soaking.

Witness the yellow poncho people!

and the blue poncho people!

The BF and I opted for the Maid of the Mist for our up-close and personal falls experience, which put us in the blue camp. The Maid of the Mist is one of the oldest continuously running tourists attractions in America and for $15.00 you get a 15 minute cruise through both falls, a cheap blue poncho and a postcard.

Standing on the shore, you can see the constant stream of boats heading from both the American and Canadian sides of the falls.

This is just about the last photograph I got of the falls before we moved into the horseshoe of the Canadian falls and I was buffeted with water and wind, and forced to find my camera under my boyfriend relatively dry poncho.

to be continued ….
