Today, Jonah missed school to go with Amitai to a rally with Michelle Obama. Amitai got a press pass (because of the big camera), so they had a great view and were then escorted up to the front. There, someone held Jonah up so he could shake hands with the first lady. (Amitai will be posting pictures of the rally later.)
As they were driving to meet me, I could overhear a conversation in the car. Apparently, Jonah had expressed interest in being president. Amitai gave him some advice, "Presidents don't put their fingers in their mouth."
As I was driving Jonah (Amitai was meeting a wedding client), we heard a pro-Obama radio commercial. I asked Jonah what the commercial wanted him to do (he got that) and then why (which he did not get). Immediately afterward was a Crossroads GPS commercial. Jonah thoguth that was pro-Obama too. Then was a Kroger commercial; he figured out what that commercial wanted him to do. Since we were already talking about marketing, I mentioned that sometimes commercials don't tell the truth. Jonah asked for an example, and I mentioned that borrowing money to help the economy is not so bad. (I was tempted to dive into economic theory, but held myself back.)
Then, I asked Jonah about why Michelle Obama thought we should vote for Barack Obama. He said, "The economy," which I thought was pretty good listening comprehension for a first grader.
At the end of our car ride, we hear "Gangam Style," Jonah's current favorite song. As we walked out of the car, he said, "When I get married, I'm going to play that at my wedding." (No politics there - it just amused me.)
