Yesterday when I went to the school for the first day, I met the other language assistant-- this really nice girl named Adibeth from Texas. She told me that she's renting this house for 200 euro/month and was looking for a roommate, so naturally now we are roommates there. And I'm living in this house with 3 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, furniture, linens, kitchen utensils, TV (antenna, not cable, but who cares!), washer (no drier, but that's common in Spain)... all for only 100 EUROS PER MONTH! I feel rich all of a sudden... haha. I'm also very glad to not be staying in Hostal el Cazador anymore. But anyway, now that I have a place, my 700 euro/month that I'm earning should go a long way. Hopefully I'll be saving enough money to travel a bit, too.
Right now I'm using the internet at the library. It's definitely nice to have a public place to use internet that is clean and not smoky. Haha... It would be even nicer if we had internet at our place... we have to call up Telefonica for that, I think.
So I have a cell phone and apartment... next I need a bank account, which I plan on getting tomorrow while I have some free time during banking hours. As for getting internet, I could simply go to the plaza outside the library whenever I want to to get internet-- even though the library is only open like 5:30-8:30 every day, the wireless is always on. Just needs a password, which I now have! Mwahaha! But yeah, having the internet at home would be wicked convenient, though it'll be cheaper to just mooch off the library, which is a close walk to our apartment. But, everything here is close to everything!
I'm currently trying to upload some pics but it's taking awhile. I seem to keep having issues... oh well. Later! Sorry for the suspense.
As for how my teaching assignment is going? OK so far... so far I'm working a little bit with an English class, and then with a social sciences class and natural sciences class, which each have English components. The way this works is, the school is gradually becoming bilingual, but at the moment only a few subjects have English components. I'll write a bit more on that later... give it its own entry! But just know that for now, the class I'm working with is pretty good-- they're all first-years, only 11 or 12, so no unruly teens yet! Phew!
Also, I'd like to mention the teachers seem pretty cool. Most of them are young, like in their late 20s. Most of them are very friendly and sociable, so that's good. The bilingual coordinator is... interesting. I think he's especially excited about us being here, because he always speaks English to us so enthusiastically.
OK that's it for now. Keep checking for updates!
