Christmastime is here, families drawing near...

Sara and I both had to work until noon today. There really wasn't much to do at my job, and I spent almost the whole half-day sorting through our latest order of pocket folders, which turned out terribly. We are planning to find a new folder vendor because it was so "jacked up" (my boss's expression). It was easy, unstressful work, but boy, was it tedious! zzzzz... But at least I got off on time. Sara and I hit the road by 1:45.

Our trip down went smoothly and even a little faster than usual (~6 hours). We pass a giant Bass Pro shop on our way out of the city, and its parking lot was completely packed! So were most of the stores we passed on the drive. It just boggled my mind: why would anyone want to go shopping on Christmas Eve? We split the drive, and it started getting dark right as I was entering the forest. UGH. I've always hated driving through that forest, and it's even worse at night. There was fog too, and at one point we drove through a thick patch of it, and Sara said, "What the hell is this?" Haha. The last ~1.5 hours of the drive are a lot of small towns, and Sara wanted to count how many trailers and churches we passed, but I don't think she actually did. We saw a lot of nativity lawn scenes (which literally depict a Middle Eastern couple seeking shelter - how ironic, given the situation in Syria) and inflatable snowmen, both during and after the forest. Yeah, snowmen decorations in 70-degree weather was pretty ridiculous.

Mom is working tonight, so only Adam was there when we finally reached her house. I was pretty hungry by then, and Adam said that Mom had said that there was allegedly food for us to eat for dinner, but I searched the house and found chips, crackers, popcorn, candy, cookies - nothing but snack food! But then, lack of any substantial food has long been the case at Mom's house, so I don't know why I was surprised. There were two containers of Green Glop in the fridge, and I tried to eat it, but Mom had made it with pineapple, which I really don't like. Both the turkey and the stuffing were raw, waiting to be cooked tomorrow, or I would've broke into them. So Sara and I just had popcorn and soda.

It was nice seeing Adam again. He showed us this ridiculously over-the-top episode of Law & Order: SVU (he has a love/hate relationship with that show, although he'll never admit it) that equated male video-gamers with ISIS members. Then Sara found Big Trouble in Little China on the Roku Box and put that on while Adam and I went into the kitchen so he could tell me the plot of the new Star Wars movie. Sara doesn't want to be spoiled, but I did. It was so funny. He was trying to summarize the plot, but then Sara would randomly scream something like, "Because the world's full of crazy people, Jack! Hoodlums!" and he'd crack up.

After Big Trouble in Little China, we watched the Nostalgia Critic's review of The Wiz and A League of Their Own and debated whether or not Dottie dropped the ball on purpose. Sara theorized Dottie only had one kid and wound up bitter and infertile, while Kit traveled more and had a bigger family. I timed Tom Hanks's peeing on my phone -- 51 seconds!

christmas, family, hahaha, travel, my sister is crazy, movies
