But why is it never sunny on Rebecca's days off?!

Well, I survived another holiday dinner with my coworkers. It was held on Friday night, the same night as my temple's Hanukkah latke dinner, which I had to miss. :( My enjoyment of this dinner has waned every year. The restaurant was a long schlep out from our place. It was swanky and noisy and full of people dressed in tuxedos and evening gowns (I eye-rolled so hard). The food was overpriced and not that good; I had pork sliders with coleslaw and McDonald's-quality French fries that weren't even hot, and Sara and I split a creme brulee for desert. It lasted from 7 to almost 11, which was a really looong chunk of social interaction with people that I already spend +40 hours a week with!!! Blegh. But I did get a holiday bonus out of it, and thankfully, we only do this once a year.

This was also Sara's birthday weekend, and I took her out to an Indian resteraunt to celebrate. I really don't like Indian food, but she loves it, and it's her birthday. I was so completely out of my element that it was kinda funny. I kept walking around their buffet line reading the labels on the food, trying to figure out how to pronounce it, or what the heck it could be. I ended up just eating a lot of rice, bread, some chicken and desserts.

The weather has still been so nicely mild here. The fall foliage only just ended, and it's still warm enough in the evenings for us to let the cats outside. We've been doing that, in small doses, since we moved here. Mayim has gotten into the habit of trying to dart outside whenever one of us opens the door, and even though she never goes far, it makes me so nervous. I always worry that one morning she'll run out and I won't notice, and I'll lock the door and leave for work with her still outside. Sara did accidentally close the door on Tovah one evening recently, but she yowled so loudly that we let her back in right away.

Our old computer desk, which barely survived the move here, collapsed on Sara the other evening, so we moved the laptop to the table, which we never used for eating, anyway. We're thinking about getting a low bookshelf to put where the desk was. (One more piece of furniture to move later. Yay.)

P.S. Happy Hanukkah to me: I finally bought a new iPod, so now I can listen to music on the way to work again!!! Shehekianu! Mom gave me her iPod speaker while she was here, and it really emphasized how old and crappy my old iPod was. It wouldn't play on the way to work because it hadn't been off the charger for long enough. It wouldn't play on the drive home because it had been off the charger for too long. It only played for a little window of time during my lunch break, and sometimes not even then. Who knows how old it was!
