Shanah Tovah: One year with our shoelace-hunter!

One year ago today, Sara and I drove to the pound and picked out Tovah from a roomful of cats. I guess I might as well change my name to crazy old cat lady, because I'm not only writing a post about Tovah's one-year anniversary, but I also baked a cake to celebrate the occasion! (It was really just an excuse to bake a cake.) It was a yellow cake, and yellow cake batter is one of THE yummiest things in the world to me, so I'm very impressed with myself for actually baking the cake and not just eating the whole batter by itself! (I've done that before.)

Shanah tovah is the Rosh Hashanah greeting: a good year! And our first year with Tovah has definitely been a good one. She was so skittish and SO skinny when we first adopted her, but one year later, she thinks she's the boss of this apartment! She's plumped up to a healthy weight and isn't just skin and bones anymore, but she also stays very active (especially for an about 10-year-old cat) running in and out of boxes, climbing on her cat tree, and fighting with her arch-enemy, a 50-year-old shoelace. I spent too much money on a new camera from work this week -- let's just hope I don't break it like I did my Kodak and my GE before that -- and here are some recent photos of Tovah enjoying her cat tree:

I also think Tovah's been acting more mewly and clingy lately; Sara and I work different hours here than we did at our old jobs and are away for longer, so that might be part of it. I've even wondered if getting another cat to keep her company would help. I would like to have two cats, but I know Tovah would hate it at first.
