You sound fiendishly busy. Chicago is an awful long way to go for a long weekend, let alone NYC. Very, very exciting, though.

Would love to hear more when you have time.

Chicago is far, but it's only a 4-hour flight, so it wasn't bad. It was all in the service of college stuff - many schools were in town for the weekend, doing auditions, interviews, and portfolio reviews. McDiva did 3 interviews, 2 school tours, and we saw 2 plays at prospective colleges. I made her go the excellent museum there, and she made me go to Topshop, which is her new favorite retail establishment, probably because we don't have one here. ;-)

Chicago is definitely what you'd call a "proper city". We adored the public transport. The architecture was marvelous. The snow was just as exotic to us as Topshop, but they really have it figured out there, so getting around wasn't an issue. Some friends drove in from Milwaukee to have dinner with us, and another night we dinner with a cousin I haven't seen in awhile, which was delightful.

It was the first time I've been off the west coast in years, and I think we made the most of it. Also, one of the schools she interviewed with has already got back with an acceptance! Victory!

I can see this happening, given where Buffy was in that season, and how Spike would take whatever little crumb she would offer him. It's so season six -- Buffy trying to fix herself by breaking more.

Buffy trying to fix herself by breaking more

Oh, very interesting. I will ponder. She seems to be flailing, and I don't know if I would ascribe such a clear motivation to her. She doesn't seem to have a plan, really. She's aimless and unable to feel anything, except when he...makes her.

I know people say she's got a death wish in this season, and Spike is emblematic of her dance with death, but it seems more complex than that. To me, her death wish was more obvious in Season 5, when she, you know, committed heroic suicide. In Season 6, every single one of her feelings is conflicted. It's so fascinating.

That's more or less what I was trying to say only half-asleep from night shift and far less eloquently. Not planning, but just doing anything to make her feel -- fixing by breaking more, even subconsciously or unconsciously.

At any rate, what you've got here is a good traipse through their heads and very spot-on.
