Poised to begin.

Tomorrow, City Year gets off to its real start. We'll go in for our second day of orientation for fingerprinting, signing up for food stamps, deferring school loans, and learning more about the seven possible teams we can sign up for. On Wednesday, we leave for a three-day, two-night Basic Training Retreat in Maryland where we'll be assigned to our teams and start really getting to know our fellow Corps Members. I'm *really* excited about actually getting started as I feel that I've been in limbo for such a long time.

But, we're still not quite there yet. So, I've been taking it easy in anticipation of getting fairly busy fairly quickly. I spent this weekend in Charlottesville with Jessica, and it was lovely. I got to attend the first service at Hillel--probably my last for a very long time--, eat Sunday brunch at IHOP, and do a lot of reading while Jessica did homework. ;-) I also got to see most of my Charlottesville friends, and that was great. Still, I'm looking forward to making friends in Nova so that I don't feel like I have to come back to Charlottesville to have a social life. (It's a good first sign when I've found at least two house mates who are interested in playing Settlers of Catan and other games (Risk, anyone?).)

In nerdier news, I've cast my eyes ahead to Dec. 8-9, which is the final weekend of the Magic World Championship being held this year right around the corner (New York City!) compared to previous years in Paris, Yokahama, San Francisco, Berlin... Of course, I'm light-years away from qualifying for the main event, but there are going to be so many side thrills that I can only imagine it will be worth the trip. I'm totally hoping to go, though definite plans are still in the works.

Well, I think that's about all I have for today. Mostly, I just wanted to try to stay in the habit of regular posting so that when I actually have something to say, I'll be inclined to say it. So, until then!
