I was thinking about the parallels between SCA melee combat and football. Sure, melee isn't as structured, but you still have a commander (coach), and the division between spears and shields feels very similar to the division of duties between a lineman and a skill player. At the Regular Event last weekend, I wore one of my most ostentatious tournament prizes - a broach composed of eight grape-sized emerald cabochons set in thick silver.
